Aprilla pulling out of MOTO2 for MotoGP because of 1000cc production based motor rule

Aprilla is looking to pull its moto2 effort in favor of taking advantage of the proposed ruling of allowing the use of production based motors of 1000cc in MotoGP. The New Aprilla RSV4 is the closest thing to a GP bike on the street but I cant see the change being the proptotypes are also going to 1000cc.. making it a back marker. Whats that old saying? its better to rule in hell than follow in heaven ?

I saw a video comparing the 09 rsv4 to the 09 r1 and they chose the r1 over the aprilia. Sometimes I think there is a lot of marketing hype about bikes and the differences between them are so minute that only a pro racer would be able to tell the difference. The majority of us couldn't tell the difference between the R1, ZX10, CBR1000, DUC1198, rsv4...etc even though some people swear they do. "this bike sucks in the high rpms" "that bike has no low end power" blah blah blah blah... BS. Lately I've been riding with a bunch of different people and when the opportunity presents itself I hop on other bikes to get a feel for them and I'll tell you from my experience that any 1000cc bike is a bad ass MF. Any major difference between them is usually due to aftermarket mods and not the bike itself.

^^^Good write up man...Rode and saw someone take back an 09 r1 and to compared that bike to my 09 zx10r is a damn shame...That bike felt nothing like my 10 and at the time my 10 was stock and the r1 had slip ons...But either way yes the difference between most is small and on the street most will never use all the raw power of these machines but to compare a 09 r1 vs 09 zx10r is a headshake

yea i saw that too from mcn "where the one guy just nods his head". I dont take any of their biased word for any bike until i ride one. Every bike does its own thing real well.

I am happy that aprilia is making the move to GP, they should be a serious contender.

Cpr I would totally agree with you that Aprilla would be a serious contender if they where using prototype engines . But if they are starting with production based engines , thats like bringing a knife to a gun fight . I like the idea of allowing the 1000cc production based engines on the grid for the underdog teams with new ideas hard work and inovation . They might not win but they could delelope something that could transfer to the street and get a few patent rights out of the deal

I suspect the reason for Aprilia pulling out of Moto2 has more to do with being forced to use a Honda engine in that class ...

Helibars, MRA screen, Ohlins damper, reversed shift pattern, sorted suspension, braided lines, Michelin Pilot Power, all else stock 'coz it's fast enough!

thats true about production based engines, but aprilia never left top level racing completely, so all these years of being around the moto gp paddock and supporting lower class race bikes will give them a heads up. They will do better than kawi did unfortunately

Pretty soon MotoGP will have the teams using prototype mopeds. Bring back the 500cc mixers and we'll see what racing used to be like. Teams actually having to work together with the rider and the bike. Riders actually having to ride the bikes, and winning based on skillz. I know teams still have to work together blah blah blah, but those 500 2 strokes were potent and mean with powerbands skinny as my wallet.

SK I thought that the END had come when they went to 4 strokes myself . I pictured riders like Christon Sarrom sliding elbows across the tarmac in procession . Lap after lap / ( yes they said the 250 style would return in 500cc bikes years ago as Dirt tracking base in america and Austraia shrunk) ... But when the 990s could slide across ala kenny Roberts , Spencer , rainey and the like there was hope . The 800cc rule made MotoGP into 250gp . If anyon likes the 800cc better please give a reason . im curious ?
