Sport Rider Showdown

Quarter Mile - Although SR said that this was basically "an exercise in wheelie/wheelspin control" here are the times:
ZX-10R - 9.92 @ 147.4
CBR1000RR - 10.16 @ 142.1
GSX-R1000 - 9.96 @ 144.7
YZF - R1 - 9.93 @147.4

Top Speed:
ZX-10R - 186
CBR1000RR - 175
GSX-R1000 - 180
YZF-R1 - 184

Track times: SR said that the gearing on the 10 was either too high or too low for a given corner, so it was down in lap time. The R1 was said to be faster even if the 10 had different gearing though.

ZX-10R - 1:25.5
YZF-R1 - 1:24.45
GSX-R1000 - 1:25.3
CBR1000RR - 1:26.02

Conclusion: The ZX-10R won because of its more streetable character and awesome engine. The 10's gearbox was excellent. The R1 was the superior racetrack bike.

The gearing must have been changed on the R1. All the other reports mention 1st gear reaching anything from 99-105 mph. The Sport Rider article says its almost 90 mph. Unless it was actual speed recorded with a radar gun.

Does the R1 come with a steering damper? If it does (and I believe it does), I would say that the addition of a damper to the ZX might even the score on the track a bit. I'd be curious to see a track comparison with both bikes on dampers...
