Rossi Getting Smoked In Virtual World, Too
by staff
Wednesday, November 23, 2011
Valentino Rossi was winless for the first time in his 16-year World Championship career this season, but that's not stopping him from issuing a challenge in the virtual racing world.
Rossi challenged the video gamers among his 250,000-plus followers on Twitter to beat his time in the popular PlayStation 3 driving game, Gran Turismo 5.
The Doctor tweeted: "I'm issuing a challenge: Gran Turismo 5. Nurburgring. Driving the Zonda R. A lap time of 6:14.211. Can anyone beat that?" Rossi then clarified that he was using simulation mode with a steering wheel and no driver aids.
It didn't take long for the world to respond, including one young gamer from Spain.
"That was a warm-up lap, right?" responded one Jorge Lorenzo.
Lorenzo then tweeted a picture of his time with the same car on the same track - 15 seconds faster than Rossi.
Rossi replied: "5:58.2 Jorge? Nice lap. I have to practice!"
Lorenzo since has lowered his best time to 5:48.7. Rossi's year from hell - on real and virtual tracks - continues.
Earlier in the season when the Lorenzo and Rossi rivalry was still raging, the real Jorge Lorenzo responded to one of Rossi's verbal attacks by saying something to the effect of 'It must suck to be beaten by kids every weekend.'

lol i saw that earlier and was thinking, you better really bring your a-game when you post a video game challenge. The fact it was lorenzo and not some 11 year old kid to whip him should surprise me but doesn't. Damn rossi, get your stuff together and at least win a race next year.

Maybe only Stoner could ride the ducati. We will see. If Hayden and Rossi are not winning soon I suspect it is the bike.

The Ducati is a quirky, fickle machine. Yes Stoner was good on it but all the other riders have not faired so well on it. Rossi is one of the best ever on two wheels.

Well I personally wouldn't say he sucks in general..He sucks for his skill level but his sucking is by far better than most racers best day..

Look at tiger woods..he was the best till his dik got in the way,he is still one of the best ever but for what ever reason he and the DR suck for their normal skill level..

Lol if I had 1/4 the skill of rossi and a 1/4 of the hunnis tigar had I would be one god damn happy man..

Yeah man, if anyone can get the ducati on form it is rossi/burgess. I'm wondering if the reason he's not done so well on it has anything to do with his age. Not that he is an old man, but is he past that point of letting it all hang out and really go not just to, but past the machine's limits like stoner did? Not holding that against him, it is only human nature. I can see where it would be easier for a young racer with everything to prove to be a little more aggressive compared to the aging guy who's already accomplished more than anyone else on the grid has and can.

And another question i'm struggling with: have we already witnessed rossi's last motogp race win? If not, ducati is really going to have to take advantage of the new rules for testing and give him some major seat time because they're quite a ways off of honda/yamaha. Best of luck to him, if that passion and desire is still there, he's still capable if the bike is.

And i nor probably anyone thinks he really sucks, but that is a kinda funny story, especially for it to be lorenzo who responded.
