Rd 400

Has anyone here ever owned one of these old 2 strokes?? I found a Daytona Special sitting in neighbors garage for the last 5 years and she wants 300 dollars for. Its not in bad shape just needs some TLC.

Never owned one myself, had a friend with rd350's and know a mechanic that had a 400 from new til the last time I saw him.
The Daytona 400 is pretty collectable I believe. Sounds like a steal.
Real easy to work on like a big dirtbike. Except maybe the carbs getting synched.

They are a handful, powerband, loud and flexy frame with no brakes/ suspension compared to today. Narrow tires...Pretty light in it's day. I still see a Kawi H3 triple at bike night evey so often.

Your neighbors will hate you.

Yeah they are a handfull. I have own a few when i was in my 20's. I want one eventhough they are out dated by decades. Older 2 stroke bikes are just cool.

Good deal. I believe the 400 was the predecessor to the 350 which was the basis for the motor still used in the Banshee quad. The rd is not much for handling but it will eat up alot of 600 sportbikes in stoplight to stoplight.

the rd400 was my second bike i owned....let me see i was 16 at the time and felt like the baddest mofo on the street....stoplight to stoplight nothing could touch me....and the added benefit of the 2 stroke was once you were in front you knew not only was the rider behind you watching you pull away but he also was choking on the blue smoke from the 2 stroke . sounds like a steal of a deal...if i were closer i would jump all over it.
