Protecting / treating leathers?

Boys,

Anybody treat their leathers, or put any protectant on them?

Its been recommended to me a few times to put "saddle-soap" on them to keep them soft and supple?

All I ever do is clean the dead bugs off them with a damp rag.

Any opinions?

Do you have to walk them after they eat, so they can, you know, do their business?
