Angry No Track Day For Me.

So i went to register for the track day that the Marine Corps base is having in a few weeks. They won't let me ride. It's only open to active duty and active reservists. I got out of the Corps 2 years ago, and my wife is Active Navy. It just pisses me off that they won't let me or any others ride, even if they have open slots. I can understand saying that active duty gets priority, but to completely leaving dependents out bugs the effin hell out of me.

Not to get off topic, but what track do they have in Hawaii? I thought they closed the only track out there.

My guess is the flightline, at least that's what they did at Kadena.

Take a risk, and you may lose. Never risk, and you will always lose.

They did close the only track out here, now nobody has a place to go fast. For a while they were doing SCCA in the stadium parking lot, but that went away quickly. There are 2 bases that run track days, Wheeler AAF and MCB Kaneohe Bay. They set up the track on the flight line(not on the runway, but where the planes park). This island is small and its boring now that i've been here for 6 years. There are really only 3 sometimes 4 roads to push a bike on here. The best one is Tantalus Rd./ Roundtop Dr. The downside to that road is there are a lot of houses on it, so you run into cars sometimes. Thirteen turns is another decent one, but it too is in a residential area. Also it is really only 13 turns so its short, and the more runs you do the more the residents get pissy. Snake road is the most dangerous of the 3 there is usually a decent amount of traffic and more riders wreck on that road. Kolekole pass is a military road, and once in a while they open it up to the public. It's not very well maintained, so it isn't always a good ride. It goes in one direction in the morning and the other direction in the afternoon. The bottom line is there aren't a lot of roads to ride, and it just plain sucks that they're gonna exclude dependents from the track day.

Wow, I was stationed at MCB Hawaii years ago. I would have never thought they would use the flight line for a track day. I guess they're getting tired of all the Marines coming back from deployment and going out and buying a motorcycle and killing themselves.

Sucks to hear that you can't participate. I couldn't imagine being stationed out there for six years. I was there for four years and that was enough for me. I wouldn't mind living there, as long as I made enough money to visit the mainland every couple of months. My buddies who were from California got to go back home a lot more than I did, given that I lived in Texas. The plane ticket was about twice as much.
