The chances of waking up from a coma decrease greatly with time. 2 weeks is a very long time.
I wouldn't want to be on life support very long.
Strange that I just had that conversation with my dad today.
That none of us want to be in that postition and are getting living wills to dictate clearly our wishes.
Off the cuff, 2 weeks was my upper limit for being on life support, and maybe not at all. Still have time to make up the details.
My worst fear to be lying there and be aware but "trapped."
"Relaxed" vegetative state my ass, could be living a nightmare over and over.
Even if it is a medically induced coma that they can "control" who knows what YOU may be going through in there. Trapped in a bad trip, or having an itch you can feel but no way to communicate or act on it- no thanks.
I've had head and stomache aches worse than a quick death....
People like terri schiavo's parents are selfish to keep someone like her they way they did and then badmouth the husband that she CHOSE for trying to honor her wishes.
On the other hand I knew a guy who woke up one day after like 7mos wondering how he got in the hospital (moto accident.) He was never 100% but did "okay."
Beyond not wanting to lay in a coma I REALLY wouln't want to burden loved ones by "existing."
Plus I'm an organ donor so maybe I can help someone else if it comes to that.
