Letter of resignation, effective immediately

For many people, to not give 2 weeks notice is taboo.

I have done it before, in fact, I did it with the company I was at before my current one. As with most things, there is a time and place for everything. As with my last, this company I am with now has turned into a total bummer for me. Almost all of the engineers spend more time working on counter productive solutions for everything.

In the tech industry, it's important that you keep up on the current technologies. Especially since they are changing so fast and often. In the year I have put in with this company, I have turned down a number of very lucrative offers because I had a positive outlook on things.

Since it isn't always smart to just leave your post without having something else lined up...

Done!

I have quit only once and I gave a two-day verbal notice to my manager. I said "in two days I will have accepted a job offer from a competing company". And then I did accept and I was escorted out.

What kind of tech job are you doing?

I didnt give my 2 weeks at my first 2 jobs, both before i was 18. But since then, i have always given my 2 weeks. I think it depends on the job though. My last job that i worked for was a small company, and they really depended on me, and i was a big part of the company. So i could not feel right with myself without giving them my 2 weeks. And it has worked out pretty good, because i have been able to help them out when i have down time with my current job to keep myself busy, and i know i always have a job with them if this one doesnt work out.

Currently my title is Software Engineer... But I am now going to be on a long term contract doing UI/UX Development for a large company. Technically, it's what I do now, the only difference is that at my current company, your voice isn't heard. Not even when you have loads more experience in certain areas than other people.

It might have been in the occupation thread, but what do you do?

With this contract, my income increased dramatically.

Also software. Compiler development to be specific (currently LLVM).

Yeah that's a totally different world than what I'm doing right now.
With the company I'm leaving, I'm doing embedded development using web technologies. I worked with another developer to engineer a part of the application framework using pure JavaScript.

They tried having me own the application build process (using ant) and I spoke my mind about it. Their response was, "We need all hands on deck." Really? There are about 20 other engineers who have the experience in that area who would be a better fit. My strong areas are in UI/UX and User Interaction.

I swear, one day I'm going to just quit IT and become a farmer.

That sucks. The ironic part here is that UIs don't seem to be getting enough attention, while they are probably the number 1 reason why people don't want to use given product...

One guy from our company did exactly that. He went to Washington or Oregon to work on some organic farm (if I remember correctly). I told him that it's awesome, and that when I retire I'm going to flush my smartphone down the toilet.. lol

I quit effective immediately at the last job that I had. It helps that the main reason for quitting was that I wasn't getting paid on time.

If I'm not getting paid on time, then sorry, but I won't be coming to work on time, effective immediately and henceforth.

Best career decision ever.

Helibars, MRA screen, Ohlins damper, reversed shift pattern, sorted suspension, braided lines, Michelin Pilot Power, all else stock 'coz it's fast enough!
