I wrecked, Sell or not sell!!!!! HELP!

To make a long story short, I low sided going about 50mph at a track day and broke 4 ribs clean in half and also my collar bone and just a little rash on the knee(textile pants). My question is this, this is my first wreck and it seems really bad even though it was really mild, I'll always have a huge lump on my collar bone, I broke 5 bones at once, I can't even lay in bed because of my brace going across my back for my collar bone and I sleep on a recliner in the living room(No lazy boy either!), I was in the hospital on morphine for 2days and in agony for 5 more there on perks! My bike only needs a couple fairings and a left engine cover and it's pretty much back to normal. I fear if I part with it I'll be miserable for ever, but if I don't I might end up meeting my maker sooner than I should! My wife wants me to get rid of it, I even said I'm never riding again a couple times while in severe pain and on Morphine of course! I want to just man up and keep it but I fear I'll just be thinking bout the next wreck everytime I ride and if it will be my last. I mean I'm no Matt Maladin or anything I never will be so one side of me thinks why take the risk and the other thinks "Wow there's no better feeling in the world, not even drugs than that engine pulsing between my legs and accelerating to the point of extasy!" What should I do? Start racing R/C cars!

get back on and ride if you are'nt comfortable after that then I'de say the safest thing to do would be take up knitting seriously only you can answer that really . I've wrecked and broken my collar bone and rashed up my body and yep I still think about it right before I swing my leg over the seat but once I hit that start button all I do is enjoy the ride

VAE VICTUS!

Cowboy up, dude! Seriously, hope you mend quickly, but once you're better, get back on that steed! While you're recooperating, it'll be a good time to work on the bike and become more intimate with it as well.

I had a get-off about 19 years ago (knock on wood that I didn't just jinx myself) - didn't get as banged up as you, but I continued to ride. I learned from the accident and my skills improved immensly. I even took an MSF class and became an instructor. Looking back at the situation that caused my accident (car making an illegal u-turn), I could have easily avoided it - had I known then what I know now.

Learn from what caused your crash, get back out there and ride safer and smarter. Don't take up knitting

IF you get knicked down get your ass back up !!! You will have that fear in the back of your mind for awhile but it will ease up and will get easier to keep off your mind. Fear is a good thing, you lose all fear and boom youre on your ass again. Learn to control the fear and dont let it control you, learn from your mistakes and you will live to ride another day.

Sorry to hear about your crash. I broke my collarbone before riding dirtbikes years ago - I said I was gonna give up riding forever and sold my dirtbike. Had another one the following season and my first street bike (ZX9) a little bit later. Get some rest but NEVER GIVE UP!

I was in a way more tradmatic accident and i still got back on. I had the same thoughts too. I lost my spleen broke my foot (still have screws in it) ripped my knee open and my arm got ripped up from glass from the car I hit that pulled out in front of me. its up to you but seriously it is gonna take death to get me off a bike. I don't ride as much and as hard as I used to thats for sure but I still ride. as soon as your healed your feelings will change too. I remember not being able to lift my leg out of bed to go pee so your in pretty good shape

Thanks fellas I knew you'd give me the right advice I have it in me it's just you need to hear it from others once in a while, and know there are others out there who have been down but got back up. I have a turbo in the classifieds if anyone's interested, I'm going to stick with the track and not the drag strip I need some twisties!!

Sorry to hear about your getoff, I thought lowsides were supposed to be non-violent. I'm sure that experience would rattle anyone, it's really up to you to figure out if it's worth it or not.
