Harley Attitude

Posted this on my ZZR Forum and needed to vent here also:

The business section of the local Palm Beach Post newspaper ran a story today on women buying Harley's.

The salesmen at Harley Davidson of Palm Beach was quoted in the article as saying "Some of them are wives and their husbands ride, or some ride the sports bikes and want to upgrde to a Harley".

Will someone please explain to me how going from 120+ hp to 64 is an upgrade, how going from 4 cylinders to 2, 4 valves per cylinder to 2, water cooled to air cooled, high performance radials to dated bias tires, state of the art racing frame technology to steel tubing frames, 6 speeds to 5, digital clocks to analogue is an upgrade? I don't get it.

I too would love having a Harley, but only as a second bike. And outdated or not, those things have excellent resale value (hence the "ride free" slogan).

Just don't stoop to the level of not showing camaraderie to other two wheeled riders. Of course, scooters and mopeds don't count. It has to at least make some horsepower.

This is the perfect opportunity for the standard Harley line. I'll bet everyone has heard this.

"If I have to explain it to you, you wouldn't understand."

In the US inventories (of Harley's) are growing and prices are dropping.

Paying 30- 50% over MSRP adding $10,000 worth of chrome, leather, and do-dads and then selling for MSRP is not excellent resale value.
