Got a spike buck (graphic, that means blood Red636)

I'm back in the office so I'll get to all the Emails and PM's

Went deer hunting in southern Illinois over the weekend. Got a small spike buck opening day just as the sun was comming up.

was an easy 25 yard shot even with the shotgun, clean kill, no meat ruined at all. He only went 30 yards after being hit and left a blood train a blind man could follow at midnight.

gets a little bloody so if you are squimish, just back button

you may be able to see the orange hat in the middle of the frame, that was the point of impact, the tree to the left is where I was standing.

here is the deer, shot right though the boilerhouse.

just got to skin him and butcher it up tonight.

Pretty young deer. Probably only 1.5yrs not only judging from the spike antlers, but the small body and short snout. If you dont mind me asking and nothing personal, why take such a young buck?

Yes, very young, I would put it at a year and a half as well.

I can only hunt public land in Carbondale, you shoot what you see because the big buck is already shot by someone else.

I would take a 2.5 to 3.5 year doe every year if I could, I'm hunting for meat and those are pretty nice.

but I drive about 300 miles and only have 3 days to put a tag on something, no trophy hunting, if it's a white tail, it's fair game.

I've got my 8 pt hangin on the wall. Unless it's a monster 30 pt Boone & Crocket, I'll take the small bucks, or a medium doe.
