good advice on preventing crashes

I read this blurb in one of my magz tonight:

Timing Your Arrival At Green Lights
-If you know your route well, it's often possible to time your passage so each light turns green just as you reach it. NEVER DO THIS - especially on a motorcycle! You're asking to be the hood ornament on that last-second-of-yellow car.

P.S. - also read that in California there is a law defining what's safe when approaching an intersection. There is usually a painted white line that demarcates the entrance of an intersection. For an entering vehicle, this line comes before the crosswalk, so it can be well back from teh square of asphalt formed by two intersecting roads. As long as the front wheels of an entering vehicle have crossed that line before the light turns red, that vehicle has the right to proceed. (with the increased frequency of cameras at intersections, violators can be pinched).

fyi, this came from Motorcyclist mag. Gotta give props where they are due

I agree Jered, you're driving style should change when on a bike. We're pretty much invisable to soccor moms and all other spaced out drivers out there.

Motorcycle, cage or my 1-ton van, I always slow down and look both ways at an intersection. Don't care if it's a traffic light or just a stop sign, I've seen too many cases of people blowing right thru them. Same goes for railroad crossings. I won't trust my life to the guy that is supposed to keep the crossing gate working.
