Going to visit the Dragon

I'm getting ready to head to TN tomorrow to visit my dad before going to Iraq. One thing I've always wanted to do is to ride the Dragon, so I thought it might best to go before I leave and not see my bike months and then try to ride it. I was hoping to get some tips or suggestions on riding the road or even where to stop and eat. This will be the first time me or my dad have ever been in that area. Any help would be appreciated.

There's nothing wrong with sneaking out of bed at 4am to go riding.

Tip # 1......ride to your ability! The Dragon is allota fun but dangerous at the same time. Not sayin you don't have the abilities, just be careful. There are a ton of awesome roads up there around the Dragon, Chrohala, 28,Wayah,143....the list goes on and on.The resort at the dragon has killer burgers and Robbinsville has a few good places, I recommend the Mexican place I think it's called El Pacifico or something.

I am going this weekend. I will be there Sat. Hope to get a full days worth of riding. It's a 100+ miles from Greeneville TN. Hope I'm not beat down by the time I get there.

There's nothing wrong with sneaking out of bed at 4am to go riding.

Watch for oncomings in your lane and ride safe! The Dragon has been unkind to many like us.

My bike won masterbike...did yours?
I didn't think so...

I've never been but have heard many stories of the dragon, some good and some not so good so yes keep your head on straight while there so that when you return both you & yer Pa can ride again.

BTW i see your in Havelock NC, my younger sis and her family lived there @ one time but now they reside in Newport.

As others have said- ride it at your pace, watch for oncomming in your lane, stay off the painted lines and you'll be fine.

Ride once up and back at the speed limit to check it out 1st.

Many areas you can look to the side and see through the trees to the next bend comming to see traffic ahead of time. Mostly when road is doubling back on itself.

Gas and food at begining as someone said and Robbinsville about 15 miles away has food, gas lodging and a cool little bike shop- wheeler's. nice guy.

Umm ....bring rain gear? And if it has been raining but road has dried- watch for puddles in shade as you would anywere.

Sarah Palin and friends can call it a snow machine all they want but Yamaha, Polaris and Bombardier plus the related magazines all seem to call them Snowmobiles.

Snow machines create snow on ski slopes. Just sayin'
