Cycle World 600 Shootout
Got my latest Cycle World last week and had a fun write-up on the 600's. Rickey Gadson dragged them all and took the R6 to a 9.93 at 135.05. Yes I said R6. Slightly modified of course, but still. Bone stock he ran the Kawi 636 to a 10.34 at 131.97. Pretty smokin'.
All of the bikes are so dang close. They give the '05 title to the R6 though. They say its power, comfort, and handling make it the all around winner. They did agree on the Kawi having the most power though at 111.6 bone stock. The R6 running second at 108HP.
Besides the big 4, they also tested a Triumph and Ducatti. The whole time I'm reading the article I kept thinking, why would anyone ever buy a Ducatti? Especially with a sticker of $21,999? It's a 750 motor that can't even keep up with the 600's? It does have the top speed of all the tests at 165mph. The R6 ranked 2nd with 164mph and the Honda, Suzuki, and Kawi all came in 3rd even at 163mph top speed.
They had an article about the new Gixxer 1000 too and had some good things to say about it. There were no numbers on it though. Have to wait for the 1000 tests ...
