Any one good with automotive services? need help :)

'96 F150 5.0 XLT starter does not disengage

I go to start the pickup and it starts fine but when i release the key the starter keeps trying to start the truck...i turn the ignition to the "off" position, key out and everything and the starter keeps on spinning...likes it still trying to the last year AutoZone has replaced 4 starters for me, an ignition, and a solenoid...

I hear AutoZone stuff stinks, and that I should spend the money for a MotorCraft starter, etc

any ideas as to why the starter still stays on even when the key is out of the ignition?

seems to me the the starter is still getting power, either from the solenoid/ignition? does this seem correct?

alright. gotta do it..... if you knock off that blue oval on the front of the truck, it will quick breaking on you!

but seriously i highly doubt it is your starter its self becuase when you turn that key off the power should stop going to the starter

Sounds like the solenoid sticking, try one from a better parts house than Autozone. If you want to test it, next time it sticks put a test light on the ign. terminal on the solenoid and see if its hot. If its not I would say solenoid, if it is take a look at your ignition switch.

Sledge hammer to autozone part, got to another parts place and praise them for not ripping you off.

Agree with all the above, ignition switch or solenoid. I wont say Autozone is horrible, but for the most part you get what you pay for, i think that says enough. Not that you always need to buy the most expensive parts, but on many electrical components, and hard parts like ball joints, tie rods, etc you dont want to skimp if you can afford not too.

low voltage makes the solenoid stick.... check and clean all battery connections from battery to the starter, pos. and neg. cables , do you have temporary battery terminals the kind that bolt on and pinches the battery cable in the terminal? on fords the battery cables corrode inside the terminal, to diag. you need 12 volt meter put red probe on battery pos. the black probe on starter pos. terminal crank motor check volts while cranking. read meter the number is the voltage loss should be less than 00.10 volts. then do the same for negative side, neg. battery to motor ground less than 00.10 volts. that's to many starters to be bad, or just go get some new cables and be done with it...
