Any marathon runners?

I am throwing the idea around to start training for a marathon. I am wondering if anyone here has completed this acheivement? Also if you have how to train trying to get all the help someone could give. I have another guy that is wanting to join me so that will help out. But it would be his and myself's first time. So sound off if you got any advice

Never done a marathon, but I'm doing Turkey Trot in Austin, TX, on Thanksgiving morning. It's only 5 miles, I hope to get by on mental toughness, b/c I haven't ran in a while. Oh well, it's for a good cause. I have friends that do marathons, I personally want to do Tough Mudder, it'll be in Austin on January 29th of 2011.

Most marathon websites have suggested marks you should be at before you run, or while you're training.

My sister and brother in law did one last month. Its a LOT of hard work. She ended up getting a stress fracture in her tibia (I think) half way through the training. They had done a hand full of half marathons before this. This is what they used for a training schedule. She said it came HIGHLY recommended. Good luck!

BTW they both finished!

Thanks for the link I am about to scope it out. I know when you start getting up into the big miles of these marathons the stress on the body gets pretty rough. I just think with the right mind and right diet topped with a good training plan I can accomplish this in 6 months. I think that is about the average training regiment people go through. Congrats to your sister and husband. I am really trying to do this and I am going to try and do my best to stick through it and not hit the dreaded wall. My goal now is to just complete it running and not care about a time.

Alright sorry with the holiday I didn't get on the web at all. I run now about miles three times a week. I know this distance will have to be increases. This would be my first structured run and I want to do it right. I have a trip home in January then after that I am looking at game on. I really want to know what worked for you guys as far as training? I am not looking to set any land speed records just finish it running the entire way.
