22,000 lighters a day will no longer be collected at airports...

Now I no longer have to throw my lighters in the trash at the airport...

http://abc.net.au/news/stories/2007/...ction=business
Complete story above....

Highlights....

US authorities will no longer enforce a two-year-old ban against taking cigarette lighters on planes because searching passengers wasted time and did not improve aviation security, the New York Times reports.
... ...

The policy change is to take effect on August 4 and applies to disposable butane lighters and refillable lighters.

The New York Times says some 22,000 lighters a day are collected by security officers at airports across the United States and disposing of the confiscated lighters has cost about $US4 million a year.

Well before I left the states my tooth paste and my deoderant got taken by security. They say it could not be more than 3 ounces. What could someone possibly do with tooth paste on a airplane? Squirt it on someone....

fULL cavity searches is the only way to be sure, Hadji's may have a car bomb smuggled in their arses. So if you catch a guy bent over shooting Crest up his bum with a butane lighter in his free hand you may want to call security.
