2005 gsxr1000 frame problem

i have a friend of mine that just got his 2005 gsxr1000 that told me tonight that there may be a problem with there frames . He showed a web page that had pictures of some ama racer that crashed and the frame split at the weld . The pictures clearly show that the welding near the tank doesn't go deep ( only a surface weld ) and we looked at his bike and it seem the same , there's is small gaps along the sides of the weld .

it's NICE RIDING A ZX10R

From the description, it sounds suspiciously like the same one that has been making the rounds on the internet.

The first pictures only showed the break in the frame, and yeah, I would agree that the weld is not the greatest. Later pictures showed more of the damage on the bike. Forks separated from both triple clamps (probably both broken - no other way for them to separate like that), front wheel ripped apart (hub no longer together with the outer rim), etc.

I tend to suspect that there was a catastrophic impact with a fixed object (wall?), and that the condition of that weld was basically irrelevant because if it didn't break there, it would have broken somewhere else. You cannot design or manufacture something to reasonably survive an impact like that ...

Helibars, MRA screen, Ohlins damper, reversed shift pattern, sorted suspension, braided lines, Michelin Pilot Power, all else stock 'coz it's fast enough!

If its the one thats been floating around, the bike is toast. Was in a race and the bike hit the saftey wall nose first. Yes it appears the weld is not all that good, but it wasn't the cause of the wreck only it popped under the stress of the wreck. But it rally doesn't matter that bike is totalled out frame damage or not.

As noted in another thread on this ONE bike. According to the rider of this now famous Gixxer, the frame broke while he was riding the bike. I am sure the wall impact exagerated the damage but the wall DID NOT cause the frame breakage. But like I said there is only one (1) example of this happening, so it does not mean there is a universal problem.

Don't confuse me with facts, my mind is already made up.

We have had the same story after some one posted a pic of a 10R frame with a crack. All of sudden some people found 15 reports of craked frames on 10R's, the fact that is was from the same source for some reason was beyond them.
I don't know how this happened with the Gix but suzook are not exactly known for their weak frames so I consider this an incident and nothing more

Yes, it is exactly like the ZX10 issue last year. And that may be a fair payback. But I would prefer not to act like some of the supporters of other brands did last year.
