Another option would be replace the stock alternator with the race kit alternator, which goes on the left side of the crank
Pics please

The racing alternator delivers only 10A and at way higher RPM; can't withstand a street bike loads. The stock unit produces 30A.

I just did the procedure!
My Engine is 17xxx and the rotor spacer is already 1.2.
I keep 0.6 very tight clearance on other side.
Unless the washers had a different material, And I understand that have, for me it is lost of time and money.
I dont know If was just dirt or If Really had Another material.

I spend about U$ 100,00 in parts...
I mentioned washers, but the correct is SPACERS.
If you read the PDF, the major reason to do this is because the change of material of the spacers... Anyway is done... but the best is buy a 05 generator, otherwise, hard to find

Does anyone else that did this mod spend the same?....because i got to tell you $100 for spacers is not right or I don't believe it...the cover gaskets anyone that has worked on a 10R before knows how to recover gaskets. other than that not sure where the $100 dollars came from

A full set of parts is about $65 + shipping at powersportsplus.com. I found no place that will offer a lower price.
