hundreds of other gen 1 owners across the globe came to the realization once they went from grocery getter pace to spirited public road pace just how inferior the OEM brakes are until addressed.

Yeppers. I have ZX-6 calipers, Carbone Lorraine pads, Goodridge stainless lines and a third gen 10R master cylinder and they still suck. Not like super sucky but still not good.

Just my opinion.. The brakes are only good when stopping under 60mph... So in other words, they're just good for commuting at the speed limit lol. The harder I pushed my bike through twisties, the less confident I feel when braking cause it's such a spongy feeling. I mean, I could still get decent stopping power when I really pulled the lever with force but like I said... The feeling was so offsetting.

Coming from an 06 r6, when I bought my gen 1, the difference in the braking is what surprised me most. For anyone to say gen 1 brakes are great is somewhat surprising but the way I see it, great or not, if there was a list of bikes in order from best stock brakes to worst stock brakes from 2000 - now, the gen 1 would likely be in the bottom ten.

IMHO, if you're going to install used calipers on your bike, please REBUILD THEM first! A lot of these used calipers sit for who knows how long, open to the air, which causes the brake fluid inside to be come super saturated and sludgy or dry and crystalline. I'm in the middle of rebuilding a set of 2014 ZX14 caliper for my track bike. The complete kit for 2 calipers is only $50
