18 or 19

Sorry for the repost, but I got nowhere adding this to an old thread. Looking for input on whether the 2019 offers enough improvement as a track bike to justify paying a few thousand more for it over a leftover 2018. Not planning an extensive build, just wheels, suspension, and a pipe/tune.

2019 ZX10R revs 200 more rpms than a 2018. 2019 ZX10RR revs 800 more rpms than a 2018 so if you want every ounce of performance then 2019 is better. I personally would love to have the 2019 ZX10RR.

I would go 19, resale value, improved head (more rpm is just one of the benefits)

yeah lots of benefits to the 19.... id only grab the 18 if budget was really tight.... or the price difference was just so crazy it made it worthwhile.

After seeing the ZX10RR in person, it was a let down to be honest. It doesn't have the presence to command a $25k price tag and I'm a die hard Kawasaki fan. It looks like the base model with some Marchesini wheels ( which are arguably not much lighter) Compare the Base R1 to the R1M. Carbon every where, stainless tank, fancy electronics. It feels special. I understand the titanium rods and all that but unless there is a huge gap in hp between the RR and base model, Kawasaki missed the mark.

18. When I got mine last year, there was a few thousand difference with the base models and more with the RR (if I remember correctly). You can get some awesome parts for that kind of money. If you flash or get some kit stuff, you can raise the rpm safely on the base model. Wheels are cool, but don’t really justify the price in my opinion. Engine stuff is cool, but I can get a spare engine or my engine built for the price difference. Either way, great bike, just be realistic on what will benefit you the most vs the “cool” factor.

18 R and 19 R wheels are the same. It's the RR wheels that are Marchesinis and yes, they're not really worth it as far as performance goes. They're actually heavier than R wheels but they do look dope.

19 engine has a better head and makes, supposedly, about 6 more hp over 18. To get that on the 18 motor, you're easily dropping at least a grand but probably more.

Plus, 19 won't need the transmission recall done. And of course, 19 will have better resale value since it will be contingency-qualified for 2019-2020 time period.

The RR wheels don't impress me. Going with BST most likely. Had a lot of luck with them. I'm getting the 18. About $5k less locally. That's half the build.
