How hard is it to remove the internals?

No, you'll need :

long 8mm allen bit

when you feel the cartridge turning as you try to unscrew it, pull on the rebound rod to put pressure on the top out spring. I did it myself and didn't need any other tools

You'll need to get there first ofcourse

the only unusual set up is that you don't need a castle nut socket to undo the guts of the cartrige, the rest is the same as any other invrted fork.
short Compression assembly the rebound on the end of the rod and the topout spring.
the newer forks are slightly different due to the rebound an compression both being adjusted from the top of the fork cap. haven't had a chance to view the internals on them yet.
