I have a 2004 ZX10R with 30K miles on it. I have had the bike since it was new and the front forks were built with RT Gold Valves and springs at around 2K miles.
The forks have been serviced several times over the years but 1.5 years ago one fork leg developed a seal leak. Because of layoff at work the bike sat for a year. When I got around to fixing it recently, the suspension shop discovered damage to the DLC coating on the tubes. The damage is in an unusual place. The damage was not visible unless the forks are extended all the way. The damaged area is where the seals ride at normal sag. This damage would be understandable if it was up and down the slider. I would just write it off to some of the spirited group rides I have been on and being peppered with gravel. But the damage is only in the fork and dust seal area only. Anyone else see this?
