Every time I use a gasket for an engine cover, water pump, etc... It always leaks. I end up throwing out the gasket and using a good gasket sealant. I have never had a problem with gasket sealant.

No need to throw out the gasket, it's there for a reason. Just smear gasket or o'ring with a thin film of good quality gasket sealant and tighten bolts to recommended specs. Do NOT over tighten!!!!!!

Locktite makes a good high temp gasket sealant. Usually available at all auto part stores. Alternatively you can get some from a good bike dealership who should have it in stock as it is used in crankcase assembly in between the two mating surfaces. But there are many different brands to choose from, just ask around.
