bike haulin question
Trying to decide how I am going to get my bike to Deal's Gap. Has anyone hauled two sport bikes in the back of a pickup? If so, how did you orient them?

Yep two 900rrs from Miami in a rented chevy ext. cab regular bed.
Just able to close gate with front wheels nudged into bed corners. I have pictures when I get to my computer.
We had no chocks, strapped them with side stands down, one strap had to pass through each front wheel to get to trucks stock tie down pts. Also strapped rear wheel to rear of side bike was on. Had no problems, used canyon dancers on both. Used the truck in a ditch with a ramp to load as it was a 4x4 (a little taller.)

my buddy rented it from enterprise I think. Around $300.00 I think Not sure exactly but it had unlimited milege. (For local use only I'm sure, they asked if he would be leaving the state and he said No! I found that out on the trip.) Anyway even with the Road Atlanta Red clay from the trip home it was all good, he kept it another week after.

You didn't haul that bike with the kickstand down did ya ZX10Miami? Isn't that's a big no no?
I think the best way to haul a bike in a pickup truck is to use a wheel chock (something that will hold the front wheel and keep it from turning side to side a rolling front to back). You can buy them but they are kinda expensive which is why I built my own. Wheel chock will keep you from having to compress the forks. After you roll it up and on the the chock you'll only have to strap the rear of the bike and the front tire.
Just my 2 cents...........

[quote=Ninja Dude]You didn't haul that bike with the kickstand down did ya ZX10Miami? Isn't that's a big no no?
I always thought it was a bad Idea, bike could hop from a good jolt, We did not have chocks and I was planning to take an fzr 600 I had at the time, It decided not to start (fouled plugs) when I went to load it so I took a chance with the CBR.
My friend uses this sidestand method often but chocks are the only real safe way to go for sure, can't slip sideways in a wet truck bed etc.
I just had the thing strapped almost too tight in the pics. Both are on their stands, right one leans more because wheel is turned into corner of truck and it is pulled tight on the stand side and secured against that by other strap.
No damage was done. Not even to any seals or paint. Tightness and a strap on the rear tire is only reason it worked I think. I always tie a hitch not in the strap at the buckle to avoid loosening (it can't get through the cam) and use a velcro strap to lock the brake with bike in gear as well.
I was nervous, especially when we hit the twisties near Robbinsville in the truck and my friend drove like we had nothing back there. (Had planned to bring a beater remember. Was in a pinch- Gap or no Gap?)

I think I am gonna rent a box van. More secure, storage, more mounting points.

I have put a R6 and a sv 650 in the back of a ford ranger for a 200 mile trip one time. I had one bike facing the front and the other facing the rear. it was tight but not a problem.
