Performance Bikes..

Just wondering who has the performance bikes issue with the 10R review where they posted there suggested suspension settings? I've used there advice before on my 636 and it was perfect, hoping for similar results.

The February issue of PB gave the following 'track tips' for the 10;

1.5 extra turns of rear rear rebound over standard
2 additonal clicks of front rebound over standard
1 turn (4mm) additional front preload - I thnk turn means additional ring

I tried the above for the road and the track and the only additional change I made was backing off the rear compression by 1 turn. This is a good compromise for me for both road and track and seems to suit my 89kg.

Did it mention what standard was? I only ask this because I've owned two 636's and for some reason both came with different suspension setups? Thanks for responding by the way.

No but the owners manuel will get you back to base settings and take it from there. I lessened the compression dampening in the rear which was suggested in another magazine and it seemed to work pretty well in lessening the shock through the rear over bumps but doesn't seem to affect anything else. I've also read in a number of articles that due to the way the forks and shock are set up with their flow, that increasing the rebound also slightly increases the compression. If you weigh about the same as me give it a go as I was really happy with it on the track.

Standard settings as listed in the service manual, which states the following:

The standard adjuster setting for the average-build rider of 68kg (150 ob) with no passenger and no accessories is:

Front Fork
Rebound: 9th click from the 1st click of the fully clockwise position
Compression: 7th click from the 1st click of the fully clockwise position
Preload: 14 mm (0.55 in.) from top
(of adjuster nut, according to picture)

Rear Shock Absorber
Rebound: 1-3/4 turns out from the fully clockwise position
Compression: 3 turns out from the fully clockwise position
Preload: Spring length of 178 mm (7.0 in.)
(collar to collar, according to picture)

Hope this helps.
