Clutch doesn't seem to release right away?
My gen 4 has done this for a while. It seems when I pull in the clutch it is still grabbing for a second, then releases. It isn't dragging the entire time the clutch is pulled in, just at first. Anyone else experience this and any tips on what I should do to fix it? Is it a simple adjustment?

You're probably right and while I'm not afraid to tear into my bike, this is the first one I've owned that didn't have a hydraulic clutch in a long time. I obviously know where the adjuster is, but what affect does turning it one direction over the other have? ie, which direction do I need to turn it? Bike only has a little over 2k miles on it and no hard launches or clutched up wheelies.

I too had this problem. After 12,00km of annoyance, I pulled the clutch apart to discover that many of the plates hadn't been oiled.
Oiled them re-assembled the clutch and all has been perfect eversince - now with 31,000km, it is running beautifully (if one could use that term on such an awsome machine). Worth taking a look.

How did you go about oiling them? Is this difficult to do? Mine is the same as the OPs and also makes a terrible high pitch noise when pulled in.

I guess I don't understand how they wouldn't be oiled, aren't they immersed in the engine oil?

No they are in the vicinity of the oil but there isn't a chance of it penetrating when engaged. I'd agree you would expect over time that they would eventually get covered in oil, but at 12,000 km most plates were still dry.

Remove the clutch cover, dismantle the clutch plates and oil them individually (with engine oil). The high pitched noise sounds more like a bearing.

Hi guys.
I don't know if it's the same symptom (the clutch acts like it has a "degree") or not...but I feel the same when I release the clutch in downshifts (always blip the throttle)...but I think it's just the slipper clutch working...
Isn't it what you're feeling with your clutch?
Regards.

Not exactly sure what you are describing. With clutch assisted downshifts, it wasn't disengaging easily making the shift difficult - more like a clutch-less downshift. The un-oiled plates were seemingly sticking together - maybe by vacuum which took some force (torque) to break them apart.

Hi,
I'm just talking about the lever feedback, when downshift... The gears enter correctly...but when you release the clutch, the lever travel is not linear. I hope I could explain myself correctly (english is not my 1st language).
Regarding the symptoms you describe, I had that "problem" in my previous R1...with the Break in Oil...as soon as the engine oil was changed...problem solved
