best way to measure/cut fairing for frame slider?
what method did you guys use to cut the left side for frame sliders? i plan on using a drill bit for pilot hole, then a hole saw drill bit to make the full hole...
but im trying to come up with the best way of making sure its center?
ive thought about buying a bolt and cutting it down/sharpening it kinda like in this method..
http://www.surfsidemoto.com/images/750-4939.pdf
or maybe doing what my buddy does in his shop and put some playdo on the backside and using that for an imprint on where to drill the pilot hole..
share some of your methods (and no i dont have a laser light like some people do as well)
thanks guys!

My R&G kit here in the UK came with a bolt that had a point on the other end as your thinking of making............screwed it in and just gently pressed against the panel. It left a mark that i drilled out and was perfect.

yea i was hoping id get the same thing or be able to find a place to get one..
i was hoping someone here had a spare laying around i could throw them a few bucks for.
looks like i might have to end up making one out of a regular bolt and cut it down and sharpen it.. its just hard to tell the exact length it needs to be

Remove the fairing panel and line up a laser pointer on the slider mount, put the panel back and drill where the dot is.

You can get a cheap laser pointer for $5 at any office supply store. That's what I used.

Maybe you know someone with a laser pointer. I got a cheap one with a magnetic base, for putting shelves up straight, it doesn't have to be a Powerpoint presentation pointer.

Mine didn't. It came with instructions saying to take the fairing off, put the bolt in, put some paint on the bolt, offer the fairing up and the paint would leave a mark where to drill the hole. But the bolts werent long enough.
So I did it by eye with the fairings in situ, and luckily/skillfully ( ) got them spot on

Do you have a lazer level for DIY house stuff? Or does a friend? These can be use even though they dont leave a dot. First do the horizontal, then the vertical. Thats how i did it.
