Who here also owns the KTM 1290 SD?

Been eyeing that bike for a long time. There are some good rebates on them and I'm thinking about pulling the trigger on a 17'. I know there's a few owners on here. Looking for real world feedback on them.

I've been looking at them also but haven't pulled the trigger yet because they apparently have lots of issues. Been reading up on them on the Superduke forum.

I think I've ridden my ZX10 once since I got the Duke. I just have no desire to get back on it after getting spoiled on this thing. Anyone want to buy a slightly used 2016 ZX10R? :)

Naked: pos. Been there done that; yes my accident as it never occurred to me at the time of purchase that naked bikes are dumbed down and not simply supers without plastic! Duh! Entire geometry is noob.

There's only a few things I don't like about the bike.

1) The keyless ignition, HATE it!
2) I could do without the single sided swingarm although it looks cool. You have to take the muffler off to get the wheel off. Not a big deal though, loosen a clamp and take off one nut.
3) It doesn't have the high RPM horsepower that the ZX10 has but makes up for it with all that wide band of low end torque. It's much better out of the hole and a fun wheelie machine.
4) I don't care for how much the bike and all of the accessories cost (a good bit more than my '16 ZX10). It also cost extra to unlock the track mode and the up/down quick shifter, but I paid the fee.

It's a different beast for sure but after about 5000 miles on it I find it superior in every other way. No comparison in comfort. I can ride that SDR all day long, even on straight roads and not get tired/sore. Electronic Cruise Control is the shit. It takes a little getting used to shifting at much lower RPM which is opposite to the ZX10. With the ZX10 you don't get into the power until high RPM and it makes good power all the way to red line. Just the opposite with the SDR. You're not making much power up near the red line it so you want to shift as soon as your out of the torque band. I'm still waiting on my Akrapovic exhaust to come in. Hoping I get a little more power up high with it. It should be here in another week.

Seriously? POS? Dumbed down? Now I know for certain that you don't know what you're talking about. Having owned several naked bikes myself, I know for a fact that they are stupid fun to ride. My Monster 1200S was a fucking beast. I really miss it, but my good friend brought it, so I always have the opportunity to ride her again. Having said that, I initially passed up the SD1290 after a 10 minute speed test on the Monster. Now that KTM have upped the ante with all the electronics and the killer dash, I'm seriously considering one once Jan 1 rolls by. I found several around for under $15,500. Still not 100% though. If the 790 would be out by spring, I'd wait it out. But, it's looking like fall at the earliest.

Because wheelie!!!

Damn, wish I had waited. I paid over $18k for mine back in September then another $2500 for the exhaust which is still on back order. Rearsets were another 5-6 hundred. Adjustable damper was another $500 that I had to send in to WP to get revalved for another $200 to make somewhat work the way I like. And on and on. :) :( :)

Such is life and new bikes man! It happens. Theres a dealer in Iowa (3 hours form me) that is 14,999 otd. Locally I can get one for about 15,500. Rebates through the end of the year are helping that number look so good.
