Anyone else find they do the doctors dangle when braking hard into a corner?
I found few clips over the years of myself doing it without even knowing i was doing it.
Ken Hill explained that you can brake a bit harder.
Maybe it gives some subconscious confidence too.
I do it sometimes when I think I will crash next second.
I think mine is from dirt riding at a young age.
Constantly loosing the front and using your leg to try save it. Plus i do believe it must help turn the bike in with the wind resistance.
Stopped doing that after trying to slow turn a 1000lb Hog and nearly snapping my leg off. Not the same as turning a sportbike in a corner at 50mph, but that was enough to get me to not do that any more no matter what I rode.
So very good to see your post, my brother. Your the only rider on this site that studies how to ride, with zero ego; I salute you!
If by dangle dropping a leg, idk. I grew up on dirt and have dirt in adult background on wr250 everyday, weather permitting, Trinity County, CA, USA, National forest. No one around. For miles. Boot on ground and knee on ground kept that bike up. Trust me. Slower speeds and forgiving dirt was the trick there; And still often crashed. Never major and bike always got me back. Once the dang thing would kick start. lol
On asphalt, I never drop a leg or a knee I do it all with the throttle and whatever else is needed.
Kenny roberts did the knee thing in the asphalt; he also started on dirt and knew the knee value. Kenny. Did all the work for us with our super liters of today. One guy did it all.
American, Edwards, in your area, a few years back, riding crap wet race conditions, lost a turn and I watched him feel the asphalt with HIS ELBOW and must have applied extra throttle for a spectacular save; But even more fascinating, the almost crash occurred in front of the UK crowd; and they saw it all! A pure and natural cheer erupted that I'll never forget.
I respect the UK people from that event and from history.
