CA emissions compliance

Alright guys. DMV is giving me more f*ckery to deal with before hey hand over a title for the bike. Got a letter from Kawasaki prior to BRINGING (not importing) a US Spec bike back to the US stating that it was in compliance with all US Standards. California DMV wants it to also say that it meets California standards because the bike has less than 7500 miles. What kind of baby back bullshit is that?! So if I rode the heíll out of my bike and racked up some miles Iíd be in the clear?!

My question to you all is:
Arenít all gen 4ís 50 state legal?

Mine is a 2012.

Iím usually very composed on the forums, but this entire process to bring a US Spec bike back to the US is getting ridiculous! It makes me want to sell it and just not worry about it anymore.

Please advise. I paid for a year of registration but my registration paperwork expires in November.... yeah... itís a bunch of BS!

No. There is the normal 49-state model, and then there's the Cali model. If you don't have the Cali version with the extra emissions controls already on it, then you're going to have a hard time. It's not so much a big deal to bring a bike back to the US unless you want to do it in Commifornia.

I may not be perfect, but at least I don't ride a Suzuki.

Ridding the Internet of bad grammar, 1 post at a time.

My local dealer, here in Utah, claimed he had never received a concours 14, or ninja 1000, that was NOT a California emissions model. It sounded as if the other states, near cal, may also have this going on?

The visual clue, on the ninja, is the cal model has an underseat, charcoal container. Like this:

Ive seen that "7500 mile" figure mentioned in several private adds where people were selling used motorcycles.

Anyway, thank you for keeping the air I breathe safe..I appreciate your effort. If only you can get my neighbor to stop using his leaf blower...yes, between the two of you, we can clean up this planet!

My best to you, and what a PITA. On a totally separate note, theres no way you could dig through the parts diagram and order the stickers that show california compliance, is there?

You know, suppose you were on this page and accidentally ordered part numbers, and some a -hole stuck them on your bike. 56071-0158 and 59465-1592

Move out of CA.

The 7,500 mile thing just keeps people from running
across state lines, buying a bike and bringing it back.

Has been this way for many years on bikes and cars in CA

Being a border state (AZ) have to agree every bike except one
has been CA model in AZ. My zx14 I got from TX and its non-CA model.

Dont see anyway around it....

Throw on a plate from another bike and run up miles past 7500

Make it a track only bike

Anyway to swap speedo / ECU with higher mileage one from Ebay?

Sell it and get dif bike

Register out of state.

Ask Kawa corp for that CA compliant notation. They'll just email it. If you're military there may be another route; ask your commander; he's used to this stuff.

Yeah I am sure his commander is dealing with vehicle emissions instead of the millions of other more pressing issues.

Not sure what units/branches you have been in but I have never seen a commander not delegate bullshit like this to an NCO/LT that deals with the motorpool.
