Exclamation Strange Starting Issue

So, I have an 08 with around 14K on the clock. I will turn the key to "on", switch the start/run button to "run", and press the start button and the starter will not begin to spin from anywhere from 1 to 5 seconds. I hear the master control relay click as soon as the button is pressed, and the bike turns over and starts as normal. The battery was tested professionally and it was good. The only thing I can think of is perhaps the starter is going bad, or maybe the master control relay isn't delivering the voltage right away. This issue is intermittent and only seems to occur when the bike has sat for a day or two, or if it's cold outside. The standing voltage on the battery prior to starting is around 12.55 volts. It dips just below 10 volts when starting. Any help is much appreciated. Thanks fellas.

New battery. The CCA (cold cranking amperage) is too low due to internal resistance. When "cold" the battery needs to warn up using drainage. Try just turning in the ignition, hit the brake lights...for 1 minute.

Or, does the same happen when a small charger is attached? The trickle charge is enough to get the battery up to operating temperature.

If this helps, you know you need a better battery.

Your symptoms are standard procedure when a Lithiom based dry battery is installed. But that is for different reasons. The cure is the same though.

Really difficult to check the modern battery. Tests are basically pass or fail. With our cartoon size units even minor loss of capacity is a real problem. is offline
