New Bodybuilding - Exercise Thread

I figure based on this we might as well start a new thread as riding season is coming to an end and many will turn their focus to the gym for the winter.

Here is what I have going on:
My wife told me she is tired of my size. Currently 5'10 3/4" and weighed in at 241 pounds last night.
Her challenge was to see me lose 25 pounds which would get me ripped to shreds.
The rules - no drugs (still clean btw), no fat burners, no supplements other than diet, exercise and protein powder.
She wants to see me maintain the muscle I have right now (tough to do while on a diet) and drop my waste to around 30-31".

As much as I hate doing cardio I hate losing bets even more so I guess I'll use this thread as a log of my progess and a sounding board not only for myself but others that have the passion for fitness.

THere have been other threads which have been threadjacked dealing with this issue so thought it would be good if we started a new one, feel free to post up goals/concerns/questions etc and I'm sure there are many on here who can provide advice etc. to help attain those goals or answer questions.

Just an FYI - my wife and I have been very active in this for years (my wife has had a 6 pack after both kids but since her accident in April has not been able to train hard - she as well is dieting) and have done well with it. Once I put my diet plan together I will post it up as a starting point for many. Once I have time I will post up some useful suggestions that have worked for us over the years.

Good thread idea! I been thinking about makin a thread like this for a while now. I try to get in the gym at least 3 x a week. A good week for me is 5 strong motivated days! I haven't been able to get in a groove and maintain that consistency all year. I noticed that if I kick off my gym week off on sunday, I can usually knock it all the way out straight thru to thurs. But if I don't get started until tues. or wed I kinda lag thru it. So I try to kick off no later than mon.

Ever try 3 on 1 off - 2 on 1 off? That gives you 5 days of training with two rest days?
Depending on goals I used to go 2 on 3 off of 2 on 4 off (bulking phase) or 5 on 2 off (go Monday to Friday - weekends off).
In the past past I also used to go at 5:30 am (cardio) and 5:30 pm (weights) but I no longer have the time to maintain this schedule. Right now I am 3 on 1 off and I run 2.5 miles in the morning four days a week.

As for me I'm 5'11, sometimes 6' on any good day! Right now my weight is fluctuating from 178-185..........A couple years ago I was fluctuating between 185-190 and I was happy with that! I was at a nice size. But it's hard for me to keep weight on, I have a high metabolism. I have to work hard to add weight and to maintain an keep it on. I have to constatly overeat and go heavy in the gym to maintain a good weight. As soon as I stop eating heavy an lifting heavy my weight just goes down with ease! :headshake I don't take any supplements I'm all natural. The only thing I take is a one a day all day energy vitamin that's it. I don't get into all the creatine an powders and all that other shit. My dad raised me to never take any supplements. He said if you can't get it the natual way then you don't need it.

I am 6'3 and 190 pounds. i have been trying to put on weight but my metabolism is just too fast. recently i started taking amino acids throughout the day in conjunction with my body weight in protein a day.

as far as exercise, i lift heavy mon, wed, fri, and do crossfit on tues and thurs. Tricking your muscles is key, dont ever get used to doing a specific exercise for each muscle. I also have found that diet is about 70% of the battle (unfortunately).

Do you ever track your diet?
The reason I ask is most people say they drink a lot of water and eat lots of protein but once you write it down you'll see you are not consuming as much as you think.
When I was 'big' I ate over 325 grams of protein a day and drank 1 - 1.5 gallons of water.
zig I would question your protein intake and start there - you may also want to take a look at your fats - try to slow the process down a bit (i.e. Almonds, Omega Oil, etc).
Track what you eat for a week with:
Time, Quantity, What it was as well as water intake and send it to me, I am by no means a professional but hsve been around a while.
