Anyone in Oahu

Just got orders and am being transferred to a new boat that will be in Honolulu. I was wondering if anyone from here is from Oahu. Been looking briefly at houses and places to live and was wondering what are some of the better places to live and some places to stay away from. For a family of 4, newborn and a 7 year old

I can't really help you with where to live, but I've been there a few times. Beautiful place! Waikiki is pretty decent and a lot of touristy stuff (wouldn't want to live near there though). Kanoehe Bay area on the north side of the island is even nicer and the drive over the mountains is gorgeous! It's a great place to visit, but I'm not sure I'd want to live on the island. I'd get island fever after a couple of months.

Enjoy it while you're there!

for more info.

I may not be perfect, but at least I don't ride a Suzuki.

stay away from the ewa beach side unless you enjoy an 1-2 hour of being stuck in traffic every morning. Just remember, everyone is going towards Honolulu in the mornings. if you can't stand traffic, stay on Hickam/Pearl. If you don't mind a drive, Kailua, Millilani, or even North shore (especially if you like to wake up, walk across the skreet and go surfing).
