Shift forks from 05 to an 04

Hi guys,

My engine is split open after 4th gear went to hell at the track.

One shift fork has been rubbing on both sides and changed colour so it needs to be changed out, can a 05 shift fork be used?? (part numbers are different..)

My bike is an 04 and I plan on refacing some rounded dogs and change the shift star with the 05+ model one because I know it can be done according to badassjake

Also since I only use it at the track, it takes considerably more abuse than if I were to only use it on the street.

So I want to make sure I use parts from the best years and they all work together fine.

Are the later models gearboxes sturdier?

Can i stick a 2008 gearbox in there?

Thanks

I've never cracked my engine open but from experience on vehicles of all sorts, part number or not, the 05 parts should fit perfectly. My assessment is that Kawi did an upgrade to that specific part so you'd most likely be better off. As far as swapping out a gearbox from a newer model, might be way more involved than just dropping in a set of gears. My $.02.

Cheers! Hope it gets worked out!
