IAT relocation

have anyone thought of relocating the IAT so it can sense better the air temp????

thinking about that it must do a lot of heatsoak from the engine...

I was thinking of putting it at the entrance of the ram air duct but I want to run it with some of my colleges here....

I have not seen the IAT temps never, to see if there is a huge difference.

I always thought air temp on the dash came from IAT. I would be surprised if there was any difference between the two.

There is always a lot of air moving when the engine is running and the plastic doesn't seem like something that would heat soak.

I would suspect the ECT has a larger effect on the fueling and timing.

The engineers have already taken all of that into account when they place those sensors where they do... You are not gaining anything by altering the sensor placement except giving the ECU a new signal that is not in the expected range from where they originally placed it. For the sake of argument you move the air sensor to a place where it all the sudden reads 10 degrees cooler than normal. The signal it sends back to the ECU is then giving the ECU permission to run the engine differently because it thinks the engine is 10 degrees cooler, but in reality the air is still the same temp in the area of the original placement of the sensor.

Now that could theoretically work in your favor in terms of power delivery, but probably not considering how smart modern Fi systems are. It would likely perceive it as an exceeded value that is just not right and alter something else in the vast mapping it has to offset that change. In the end why bother? Just use what you have which is already a known response. I mean you could have your ECU flashed perfectly and then do something like that and screw it all up because it's not receiving the correct sensor inputs that it thinks it should be. Jus Sayin

Done did it already, oh and i switched to gm open element iat that reads a lot quicker than stock toyota sensor. Heat soak was a pain, especially sitting in the pits waiting to make a pass.

This is a known mood for s1000rr. Since they placed the iat sensor where it heat soak a lot
