I recently picked up a 2011 zx10r on a good deal. The only problem is it throws a FI light for a code 27 which is a front wheel sensor. The problem is my bike is a non abs model so it doesn't have the sensor. The previous bought a used ecu that had been flashed by ecu unleashed. My thinking is that it is a ABS ecu and it causes it to think it needs a wheel sensor. Can I get the current ecu flashed and turn off the abs or will I have to get a new ecu?
even without abs, you have the tone rings, for traction control, and wheel speed sensors (front and rear). sometimes people get in a hurry when installing the front rim, and install it backward, with the tone ring on the right side, instead of the left. check that first. after that, check the sensor on the front left side of the lower fork leg. Ski
Yeah, this has nothing to do with the ECU. All models have the front wheel sensor. It is used for the traction control algorithms and not ABS if the bike doesn't have that. Skidoo is correct with the advice he's giving you. Fix the actual problem and don't worry about the ECU.
Yes, front on backwards. The ring must go on left. I did that and remember that the front resisted install then the dash lit up oddly but can't remember exactly what. On the '11. When I really cranked the bike on turns the bike told me that it really didn't care about the dash lights. Slo, a rider here, gave me the head's up about the backward front. And where has Slo been?
edit: also, I'm no tech. I just ride bikes. I have the '11 and the '13. Black and white. I hate the white so switched out the side black '11 plastic to the '13 white. That left side plastic has some electro whatever; I can report np with that '11 plastic electro whatever going onto the '13. Not sure what that is; Sky, you know what that is? sure you do!
edit II: the '13 just hit 70,000 miles of rather hard riding today. Meaning, 70k miles of hard riding but with reasoning and accountability skills Running smooth as butter. The '11 hit 50,000 miles before I blew it up, for those that are new on this site. do the math! lol
