Consumed fuel meter accuracy?

I have noticed that the amount of fuel I have to put in my bike quite is a bit over what the bike's gallons used meter says has been used and that I am not actually getting the MPG the dash says I should be getting. Are these meters accurate for gen5s usually and should I be digging in to the bike to find a fuel leak?

When it says I have used 3 gallons I have actually used 3.5 gallons and the fuel light comes on then. It says I have averaged 40mpg since new but I am only ever just barely at 30mpg according to gallons put back into the bike+miles travels that tank.

Gen5 that's just Fantastic.

Right after the Average MPG reading since new in the same place as the clock or odometer, keep pressing select till you see #.#

On my Gen5 the display usually reads 0.3 gallons lower than actual so for example the dash might display 3.2 gallons used but the tank actually takes 3.5 gallons at fill-up. I've noticed that the display comes closer to reality if I spend a good amount of time in putt-putt mode such as on a long, slow group ride but that's a rare situation for me. When it comes down to it I don't give it much thought and just keep in mind that I can expect a low fuel warning when the bike tells me it's burned 3.2 gal.

Good luck!

I have to say, going from my previous bikes all having a fuel gauge, it shocked me a bit and has taken a bit to get used to.

Interestingly I'm going on a few long rides and there will be a fair gap between fuel stops, so I'll have to be careful, lol.

Mine without fail always misreads by 2 litres. If it says Ive gone through 10 litres, I will have to put in 12.
