Well, my front tire is starting to go bald. Feel it drifting a bit too. I ride pretty hard on the highways here in South California. Lean it well too. No chicken strips on rear. Spend a lot of time 100+ mph territory. Ride in the rain too. So I was wondering what brand or model tire is recommended for this bike? I think its a got a Diablo on the front now and a Continental ProMotion on the rear. What are you guys running on the streets, any recommendations?
Bite the bullet and get a matched pair on its the street dont skimp on the only contact with the road. Drifting can easily be a mis matched pair :dontknow:
There is no best. It's all a compromise of something. Second.. uhmm.. read above.. if you cant afford a matched good set of tires, park the bike... or better yet, sell it if you cant do it right.
There are literally 25 tires that would work for you. And since you don't wanna spend the cash, I dunno man. Bike maintenance and safety are the most important things.
A lot of people like the Dunlop Q3s. There is a Q3+ now I think. They are a little soft in the center for me because I do a lot of commuting on the slab, but might suit you better from what you're saying.
I agree with the others here, get a matching set, and go from there.
I don't know how long the Q3 last, nor do I know about any other tire in your kind of average temperature, but I would recommend you give a try at the Battlax S21 set. The center compound is harder, which should help a bit.
Michelin RS are better than Q3+ for straight line durability. They are equal in the canyons roughly. They are both aggressive street rubber. You can get a set for $310 roughly to your door 120 front 190/55 rear. I have much experience on both. They are both great tires if you ride aggressively.
Yea, my girl got new front and rears on her 03 GSXR 600 last year. Rode it today, they're still like new and wow they feel so good. But to be honest the suspension on her bike feels way stiffer, less bouncy, which gives a better ride too. I think I gotta get my suspension dialed in. The front mostly feels real soft, especially on leans.
And yea, I think I'll get a rear one too since I noticed what looks like a 2 inch sideways gash on it. But what I meant was only trying to spend like $150 on each tire. Say plenty online for around that price. It's a shame though cause the rear has plenty of thread. Guess I'll have to do a big burnout before I take it in. Lol.
Is there anything that could be causing that front to wear quicker? Like suspensionwise? Improper set up for my weight maybe? I always ease into the front and rear brake when coming to a complete stop, so I don't think it's due to lots of handful of front brakes.
They take about a thousand miles or two to get flatter in the middle when on the highway, but I toughed two sets to 7,500 miles each (last set definitely went overboard before I could get to the real twisties).
The first picture (less used) is my last S21 set. Mostly straight roads, but still 7,500 miles (cold, always colder than 85F outside here and often in the wet).
The second picture is my buddy's RS10 on a '16 Gen 5 after our daily twisties, while my tires were pretty much still in mint condition this time around.
I just did a track day on S21s. I would recommend at least trying them when the rebate is available.
