Ive always had trouble with my plastics on my 04 spontaneously cracking from heat, stress, vibration whatever but damn; I was doing some maintenance/repairs today and found all of these cracks, really lets you know they make this stuff to be as lightweight as possible, I guess durability is not even in the equation

most of those look like they were overtightened when you put the plastics on last time

Yeah that's weird.. They don't break like that normally. Only time mine cracked was when I laid the bike down :badteeth: +1 on over-tightening

most of those look like they were overtightened when you put the plastics on last time I doubt it. If you do a search, you will find some old threads where a lot of guys were having mounting tabs break off, tail sections cracking around the bolts is a big issue, lots of guys' taillight mounting tabs break off. I bet ive plastic welded/jb welded 10 tabs back on various pieces of plastic on this thing over the last 4 years.

As a matter of fact, the the first pic (with the biggest crack) that bolt was loose when i went to remove that plastic earlier today (again vibration)

Maybe it's just the orange fairing.. my silver 05 hasn't cracked once and it's got 28k miles.

Looks like some rough wheelie landings and maybe rough roads too?..... I'm thinking OlderGuy's bike didn't look like that even at over 40,000 miles.

My 04 has cracks only on the screw holes for the wind shield...been ignoring them and they dont seem to get bigger.

My 05 has some small cracks around the windscreen and on the tail section. Also my tailight tabs are broke off but I fixed it with some trusty zip ties.

I know that removing the tag/mudflap has caused problems, need to use fill pieces and bolts to replace where the mudflap reinforced the tail. At 8k+ miles, the only thing I managed to do was break a tab on the black side piece that attatches to the tank. That happened when an SUV decided to take my lane and I was on the brakes so hard the tail tried to come around me in a two wheel skid. I had the bike pretty tight between my legs and probably by butt.

yea i remember the tabs on your tail cracking mine did the exact same thing, years ago, I used epoxy and reinforced it by melting chicken wire into the back of the plastic...I guess thats how im going to fix all these cracks too

how do you like the ulysses? all i have is a drz right now, but ive thought about giving adv riding a try It is a lot of fun, you can get used ones pretty cheap, 08's have more steering lock and some other upgrades though. 17" inch wheels, so no knobbies avail like for a BMW but it handles off road pretty well. Kind of heavy but doesn't feel it when riding, V-twin torque (and low redline), blows some heat on a hot day, could hold more gas for true adventure riding, true nuts put axillary fuel cells on for that. You can probably test ride one, that is one reason I ended up buying it, hard to test ride anything in Miami. I kind of want a new WR250r (not the X) unless they do a 450r soon. http://www.yamaha-motor.com/sport/products/modelhome/595/0/home.aspx I was stuck on what to buy, really kind of wanted a true dual sport, couldn't make up my mind, 250, 400, 525exc, 650..... said screw it and got the Uly. I also like knowing that I can put hard bags on it.

yea money was the reason i didnt get something nice like a ktm, had to settle for the drz; mine is a converted e (dirt model) so has more power better suspension etc great on road and off road. 40 hp and 260lbs no too bad i s'pose

Wouldn't do this to the 10r, end of day, didn't want to wreck and ruin a good day so a little mellow but.... http://i279.photobucket.com/albums/kk138/miamimotorcyclist/may3rd/th_006.jpg (http://s279.photobucket.com/albums/kk138/miamimotorcyclist/may3rd/?action=view¤t=006.flv) http://i279.photobucket.com/albums/kk138/miamimotorcyclist/may3rd/005.jpg http://i279.photobucket.com/albums/kk138/miamimotorcyclist/janesplus024.jpg http://i279.photobucket.com/albums/kk138/miamimotorcyclist/IMG_0262.jpg

my just purchased 06 has the top left (from rider perspective) screen mount broke...thats all i noticed off hand :dontknow:

on the windscreen cracking issue, i think the way a puig mounts--especially the middle bolts bolting to the stock metal brackets is a poor design for such a fragile screen.. that plus i may've overtorqued it a little

i may've overtorqued it a little Overtorqued some & left others loose would be my guess. Other then the problem with the tail light tabs, my plastic also looks fine with 70k kms on the clock.
