Grease 07-18-2008, 08:45 AM I finally scored some of these bad boys from ebay!:wav:
They are starting to get as scarce as hen's teeth, so I was surprised to see them come up with a buy-it-now of $175.

Do hen have teeth? No:heyyou: you need to shim them with washers. Then they are good.

Grease 07-18-2008, 12:47 PM Is your braking not adequate enough?
Well, one day...I decided to see what the ol' girl had on this little 1.4 mile course. 3rd day with her on a track, but I had gotten to know her pretty well over the previous year. So, I steadily picked up the pace each session after lunch. The 2CTs were gripping good, I was draggin' knees and toes and feeling good.
I know it's about time to see the white flag, so I really start pushing...as I cross the start/finish, I see the guy reaching for the white...so, yep, I got 2, maybe 3 laps before I have to come in for the day.
I downshift going into T1 and as I go from T1 tthrough the sweeper to T2, I upshift where I usually just rev it out. I try to single tire it as I come up to T2/T3...set the gear...steady the throttle...throw it left and as I come up on the apex of T3, I hear the satisfying sound and feeling of the left puck deteriorating on asphalt. I exit wide to set up for T4 and T5. As I come up on T6, I enter wide and let the turn scrub a lot of the speed and get ready for the decreasing radius T7 out of T6...and there it is again...but only on the right side...oops...and there is the toe! Mmmm...need to pull my foot up a bit..but all is good. I give it gas...a lot. I grab a handfull and it makes the forks compress impossibly tight before I throw her to the left, into the carousel of T8. T9 is just a little hitch coming out of T8 so I stay in the gas and really press the straightaway...I only have a couple of good laps to go at best.
Well...I look for my marker. I have a set of esses in T11-T13 that will make you pucker to the seat. As I sit up and get ready to get her just right...I find that my forks aren't compressing and my right ring finger is starting to hurt...now it's getting worse...oh crap...the rumble strips! PULL IT! PUL IT! Oh hell...here we go...LEFT! Hitch right and LEFT AGAIN!
SCREW IT! I'm going in...don't want another lap!
As I pull into my pit...I am still squeezing the handle against grip...hoping that it will stop before I hit the trailer...whew...let me back her up here just a minute...as I am almost off of the tarmac area that is my pit.
It was in that last minute or so that I decided that my braking might not be adequate.
...but I could be wrong...:spit:
However, I did learn that I can do the esses MUCH FASTER than I thought... :badteeth:

T-Rod 07-18-2008, 10:55 PM Sweet score, I got mine the other week on fleabay, about 20 mins after the guy listed them for $130 BIN w/shipping. You are right though, very hard to find on fleabay anymore, and when they do show up they don't last long.
SUPER K 07-18-2008, 11:22 PM Are you running the Brembo RMS? It will thoroughly eliminate the lever to bar, "oh shit where are the goddamn brakes" feelings.

The bad part is that it is all true.

Currently, she is bone stock. The only thing (read as cheapest) I changed after that "oh crap" day was put on some Vesrah RJL pads. BIIIIG difference. 2 weeks later, went to a faster track that I was more familiar with...no fade at all.
Since then I went to Silicone fluid, but now I will be looking for some braided lines before I swap calipers.
booken 07-19-2008, 10:45 PM Just go to your dealer and by a set of 14 calipers. Sure you will pay a bit more than ebay but you can return them if they are defective. And you can have some peace of mind that you are the first one to use them.
ZX-10R_04 07-19-2008, 11:13 PM I think these ones might be ZX14 ones not sure but thought i would share the link incase anyone is after some

Dude good buy. You will love the feeling when you grab the brakes. Get some SS lines to go with them.
toxic donkey 07-20-2008, 06:22 PM are the vesrah pads available for the 14 calipers yet?? i scored my set last season but didnt put them on until this year with braided lines and motul fluid. huge difference but i would really like some better pads. i put ebc hh on when i swapped cause thats the only thing i could put my hands on in a pinch. theyre ok, would like rjl though.
butundo 07-20-2008, 06:38 PM Does anyone change the rear caliper? Since I don't really ride my wifes bike, I haven't had a chance to really test the rear. Are people changing the rears from the zx14 as well?

It would be nice if the rear 14 setup would work, but its toataly different. Quite a few guys are interested in a bolt on underslung race style lightweight caliper setup. For now you will have to go custom setup, I am working on it.
Grease 07-20-2008, 07:11 PM They have a rear brake?
roland5color 07-22-2008, 01:21 PM I just missed a brand new set of zx-14 calipers on ebay they went for $50+ $20 shipping. Man I am always a dollar short and a day late.:headshake
fun2fly 07-22-2008, 01:56 PM Jeez these 14 calipers are getting to be like finding some old painting at yard sale with the Declaration of Independence hidden in the back:spit:. I wonder how many people with them actually know how much they are in demand. I got the 07 6R calipers, SS lines and the 07 6R brake M/C as well but have yet to put them on. Gotta get offf my lazy ass and get them rigged up.

I am pretty sure I am the one who got those :helmet: Sorry :heyyou:
I wrote about it in the CBR caliper swap post yesterday. Was it the auction that included both clip-ons with all the controls? I really wanted that master cylinder off the 14 too.
If it makes you feel any better I got the whole package for $200 not $50 but it was still a steal imo :occasion1

Get some better pads on those 6r calipers and do not lose the heat dissipation shields between the pad and the pistons when you change out the pads.

Yeah those were the ones. I was going to bid on them when I got off of work but I was to late. My ebay record showed that they went for $50 but I thought that was weird. I had a funny feeling that a fellow ZX-10r member had won them. By the way I was going to go as high as $250. How high were you willing to go. Oh by the way I hope they don't fit.:heyyou: Yeah I am a sore looser. Nah I hope they work out well for you they looked brand new in the pics.
roland5color 07-25-2008, 02:38 PM I just missed another set off ZX-14 calipers. I bid $200.10 with 18 seconds to go and had the guy beat by $.10 then some how in less than 8 secs the other guys saw my bid and out bid me with $202. and some change. Man that is why I prefer buy now. Oh well I am thinking about getting Cbr calipers maybe I will have better luck.

roland5color 07-25-2008, 03:55 PM I think that some R1 calipers fit, too?
They do work but you have to change your rotors to zx-14 though. All the Cbr calipers require is 5-5.2mm washers and you are good.

Ervins 07-25-2008, 06:22 PM We just got Roland some calipers for $39...That is way better than $200. Now with the savings he can get lines and brake fluid...This is the cheapest way so far...The results are in...Don't blow wads of cash save some money so you can even enhance the braking even more.

Roland, I think some cheese balls are using that computer eBay bidding service to get them. I missed 3 auctions exactly like you did but each time it was with about one second left and it was the bidders only bid.
You should try what I did if you see a pair for auction (it is a little underhanded but may get them for you) with no buy it now price. Ask him for a buy it now price to close the auction. Can't hurt, just may tick off the other bidders :heyyou:

What guilt? you:rant: :heyyou: Ah I am glad I was out bid now I got a better deal. I can get some lines now I already have a new bottle of fluid just waiting to be used. Motul synthetic.
Any advice on pads. When I order the pads i have to order them to fit the cbr calipers right.
Ervins 07-26-2008, 10:14 AM Yes when you get the pads, it is for the CBR calipers. Vesrahs RJL...That is what I went with after the people here recommended them to me in heaps.
