: Will a 04 lower Crankcase fit my 05?? Help!
UltimateAutosports 07-09-2008, 11:21 AM okay I need the bottem crankcase replaced on my -2005 zx10-r- I have found a 2004 crankcase (aka) engine housing or block, I need to know if I buy it will it fit my 2005??
If your wondering why I need it replaced check my other thread (from 07 busa- 05 zx10 and then....)
Jonathan o 07-09-2008, 11:24 AM 04-05 are suppose to be the same.
GoFaster 07-09-2008, 09:01 PM They are the same BUT, if you are considering replacing the lower crankcase only, think again. The upper and lower crankcases are machined together as a set and you are supposed to keep the upper and lower together. If you don't, the crank journals (formed by the combined upper and lower crankcases when bolted together) are not guaranteed to be round or in line with each other ...
UltimateAutosports 07-09-2008, 11:52 PM Really?? I dont understand that engine comes apart in a lower- mid- and top housing (3) piece does it not? I had a place here in Co springs, called Rocky mountain motorsports quote me 500-600 dollars for labor on replacing the bottem half.
See I cracked a fairly large piece of the housing where the (camshaft) cover / pulsing cover. And I have had ppl tell me it can be TIG welded but the prob is Heat melting the Hardened plastic liners located inside the camshaft cavity. So I dont know what to do??
I had one other question about the inside of the pulsing cover/ timing chain, if anyone here has ever been inside the area where you take the plate off?? To the left of the cam gears there Is a small plate that has a machined hole in it..... When I wrecked It came off, I found the part, and if I keep this engine block it will need a weld attach as well.... my Q is.... It almost looked like there was a Pin that slid into it? But ive not seen any part # for it..... Ive been told its just an area that shoots oil up and lubricates the camshaft gears

:+1: You can't buy a lower only, it will probably not match.
If you finally need to order a complete set, check your engine on the back right upper side (above the clutch cover, next to engine mounting bolt) to find none, one or two round small holes . You must bring the same crankcase (part. no) otherwise the internal parts will not fit. I can take some pics if you want...
9R to 10R 07-10-2008, 07:17 AM Sounds like an expensive fix, might be better off just finding a whole new engine on ebay. You could then take yours and part it off and make some of your money back.
UltimateAutosports 07-10-2008, 11:06 AM :headshake this isnt good news for me..... My engine is in a box crated for me to bring it to someone, if you could take a picture that would be awesome:thumbsup: my bike is an 2005 model- 10. Would your # match mine?
I post on my iPhone but I'll try and get on my computer, and post a few damage pics, to see if you guys think it could be welded and repaired..... DamN this sucks!:headshake you guys just saved me 125 bucks of wasted money though, I was gonna purchase just the lower casing
UltimateAutosports 07-10-2008, 11:13 AM well I'm thinking about just getting it repaired/ welded.....
tasos 07-11-2008, 12:04 AM Give me 2-3 hours i'll get em...
tasos 07-12-2008, 12:26 AM Here are the pics. Where the yellow arrow is you should have 0 or 1 or 2 holes. You must find a lower crankcase with the same specs to RISK IT...
tasos 07-12-2008, 12:29 AM I tried to weld it 4 times without success. It was opening more and more.
If it's not done right the first time it's toast.
The only solution...
UltimateAutosports 07-12-2008, 01:35 AM wow thank you so much for your time/ help, looks like you had the same problem I did? How did it happen? To me its a real BS design on kawasakis part....... Really pisses me off.
how much does the top and lower cost?? How much am I lookin at? I found some on Ebay for 299.00
tasos 07-12-2008, 07:41 AM Well, here in Europe prices are insane
It cost me 2500 euros new, that's about 3850 USD !!!!
But i am sure another member from the US will give you a valid price.
I buy crashed ZX10's, rebuild them and sell them as a hobby, but in this case (3rd 04 ZX10 i rebuild) i didn't see this coming...
If the crankcases match yours then you might want to give it a try, but i bought a new one because i don't want anymore worries.
It's up to you really...
