: wrecked the 10
zero4o3 07-04-2008, 03:12 PM I feel like some kind of a retard laid the 10 over after just about 1k miles on it. I have owned 3 other bikes and probably over 30k miles on them total with out ever laying one down hehe.
I was going around 20-30 it just started raining maybe 15-20 minutes before that, I was coming up to a light that had just turned green and the car in front of me (maybe 2-3 car lengths up) hit his brakes kinda fast, i guess the car that was stopped at the light was not moving as fast as he thought it would be, anyway i got on a little to much back brake for how slick the road was and she just kinda went right over.

Venom132 07-04-2008, 03:20 PM That sucks man. Looks like your slider took some grinding, could have been worse.

yeah over all it is not bad, I'm just not sure if i should claim it on the insurance and take it to a shop that will get me set up or just buy cheap replacements off like ebay and do it myself
Ripped10R 07-04-2008, 03:25 PM hey don't feel so bad ,I had just left the house and got to the corner to make the turn and the bike just went from under me (only doing 15 mph)got it back home and notice that the reason why it happened was because my dog pissed on the rear tire:lol:
Colwin 07-04-2008, 03:38 PM Sorry, unfortunately stuff happens. Maybe it's not as bad as you think it is. The main thing is that you are ok and able to live another day. The bike can be fixed.
Keep your head up.
zero4o3 07-04-2008, 03:52 PM i just need to figure out if i should claim it on the insurance or not, it looks like the engine cover is leaking oil the brake lever is bent to hell and the rear brake pedal snapped off and is just hanging by the line
BrandensDogs 07-04-2008, 03:53 PM Dam, that sucks, at least you are alright! Take the insurance money and get whatever upgrades you have been wanting and fix the rest yourself :)
bchandler 07-04-2008, 04:08 PM How much is your deductible?
If you can get the OEM replacement value of the plastics, slider, rear set, master cyclinder, etc, and then do some shopping, you should probably come out ahead!
Consider it an excuse to get aftermarket rear sets :)

Dont claim it on your insurance.. If there was no other party that your insurance can put the blaime on then it will be your at fault accident 51%. At least that is what State Farm did to me years back when i had my 2001 929 and dropped it in the rain under the same situation as yours... I say eBay and be done with it lesson learned:beer:
URBAN LEGEND 07-04-2008, 04:31 PM Sorry to hear this.

i think its 500 im about to give them a call, i may have even went with 250 and if thats the case i will definitely claim it, and uh maybe those calipers are a little messed up to
wicked 07-04-2008, 05:22 PM could have been worse...glad youre ok

hmm i have state farm... I wonder what will happen if i report it
zx-7rking 07-04-2008, 05:45 PM I had a very similar off on my 10R Look like you did the same amount of damage as I did. Except I was lucky enough not grind down the engine case cover. I did break the headlight tabs. Pieced it back together via ebay and ron ayers. cost me about a 800 with 350 of that being a headlight I got off e-bay. Good luck
zero4o3 07-04-2008, 05:49 PM maybe i should just call them up and tell them how i was going up to the light that was red had slowed down to about 20-25 and it turned green when i was about half a block away from it and then a coming from the left side ran the light as it turned and i got hard on the brake cause he scared me and it low sided?
zero4o3 07-04-2008, 07:08 PM taking the bike up to my friends shop on Tuesday, went ahead and called the insurance and told them what happened, maybe i will be able to manage some after market rear sets or better brake lines/levers MC that kinda thing hehe
morefire 07-04-2008, 07:53 PM sorry to hear bro, and again...I know the feeling. I dropped mine and felt like a total dumb ass... but you know what, shit happens. Its fixable and your ok
zxdave 07-04-2008, 08:31 PM damn bro.....sorry to hear it......def stay off that rear brake in the rain .... its good for nothing when its slick out, good luck gettn it back 2gthr
shift 07-04-2008, 08:41 PM Any oil that has leaked onto the road will come out when it starts to rain as the spaces fill with water. Avoid riding till it gets a chance to wash away. That is probably why u skidded, breaking front and rear slowly helps. I know sometimes it is hard to tell if ur rear is lockin up. I have the same bike color, too.
zero4o3 07-04-2008, 10:18 PM I have been riding for 3 years now were my bike was my main source of transportation, i feel like a retard wrecking dropping the bike like that, for some reason the 10 feel like the back side is always getting loose. wet or dry guess I'm just not used to the new bike.
I think my big mistake was letting off the rear brake once i thought i had the bike under control when the tire started moving again the road was to slick for it to get traction and the bike just kinda slid out from under me. to be honest I don't know what I could have done to prevent it besides not be where I was.
on the plus side, the bike was not perfect when i got it and when I get it back from my friends shop it should be in like new condition, should be replacing the damaged fairings new rear sets new seat cowl new levers new handle grips and bar ends stainless brake lines hoping to be able to work in some new calipers. Thinking it might need new tires to because of the way it slide they probably wont be very safe
here is a picture of the bike a few days before

there have been a few times were i thought the rear end was getting away from me when shifting into 2nd after taking off hard hehe maybe i need to get the rear shock adjusted
shift 07-04-2008, 11:47 PM When i was young i thought i could ride year round here even in snow so i learned how to ride in pretty much anything. Road frozen no problem im going rideing dam these bikes slide a lot. My old 900 kawi it did one hell of a lot of slideing but was easy to hold on to after i laid it over i would just ride it out.
CP10R 07-05-2008, 11:43 AM i had almost the same thing happen to me on my magma 10 and the one thing i remember really clearly about the whole thing was how easy i picked the bitch up when my adrenaline was running. at least you have plenty of time before the end of summer!
SUPER K 07-05-2008, 11:53 AM hey don't feel so bad ,I had just left the house and got to the corner to make the turn and the bike just went from under me (only doing 15 mph)got it back home and notice that the reason why it happened was because my dog pissed on the rear tire:lol:
LMFAO!! Spot would definitely get his ass beat with a whole stack o newspapers.
Orange Juice 07-05-2008, 01:00 PM Proof that fairings sliders don't protect SHIT.
shift 07-05-2008, 01:03 PM Hey i stopped my truck to take a pea the other day and let my dog out to, she run right under my stream and got pea d on so piss on the dog. If that wasn,t bad enough i spilt my glass of root beer on her later. So now i got a dog that smells like piss and has brown root beer spots on her white coat.
ZX10Miami 07-05-2008, 01:11 PM Nearly 4 year old, stock dunlops certainly didn't help any.
I assume with a thousand miles, the tires are stock, I forgot how bad they sucked.
lenshead 07-05-2008, 01:28 PM Sorry to hear of your misfortune, seems to be a lot of that going around...
If you've only been riding for 3 years, just take it as part of the learning curve. Stuff like that still happens to more experienced riders. Don't ask me how I know.
flthy1 07-05-2008, 02:08 PM i just need to figure out if i should claim it on the insurance or not, it looks like the engine cover is leaking oil the brake lever is bent to hell and the rear brake pedal snapped off and is just hanging by the line
dude claim it!!!!! My wife's and my bike got knocked over while we were out to eat, I priced everything out and would have paid about 1500 on mine and 1000 on hers. I deciced my 500 dollar deductible didnt sound so bad. I took them in and got 4000 for mine and 2800 for hers, time to get that new exhaust:lol:. either way you pay for your insurance for just this type of situation dont be afraid to use it. good luck

the bike has close to 8k miles on it and the damage really is not that bad the more i look at it just that stupid cover that cracked, but im going to have a like new zx10 in a week or so hehe so that wont be to bad i guess. I dont remember what tires the bike has on it off the top of my head im just gonna go ahead and blame it on user error

Ahh that makes more sense, I was wondering how someone would have an 05 with "almost 1k miles on it."
Glad it wasn't as bad as you thought.
