Mad kaw It wasn't a specific thread dedicated to the removal of the KLEEN/AIS but it was contained within this thread on pg#4. http://www.r1-forum.com/forums/showthread.php?s=&postid=987063#post987063 BD

Bad news for us in Cali, our bikes have a different ecu that costs us about 10 hp.

"Butt dyno"....what do you measure with one of those?? Different ECU does not mean less HP. Alot of bikes use different ECU's in CA, but the primary difference is they either run more initial timing retard in the beginning of the curve or have slightly different map with a leaner fuel curve at the bottom of the range. This is to clean up the idle are to meet the CARB standard at idle. But the rest of the advance curve or fuel map is the same so they end up making the same pony. Two bike you may have heard about that do this are the GSXR1000 and the R1. Both test out at normal HP in CA.

Well I just got back from dynoing my bike ,the second zx10 he dynoed today. Both ca. models one was 147 other was 146 rwhp dyno guy said the first guy freaked they called the dealer and the black boxes are different for 49 state bikes,.He said that must be it.

Well, thats close to the power that the guys out of state are getting too, so maybe someone snuck CA boxes into all the 49 state bikes. I'd think about finding another dyno guy, cause he doesnt sound like he up on his stuff. He should have known that the Suzuki and Yamaha aslo run different boxes. Could be he only said it if that first guys was gonna have a major meltdown cause he though he would make as much HP as the early magazine bikes. No one has even come close to those, here or out of state.

every dyno reads the same bike differently...the better question was what were other bikes pulling that day too?

I met the Roadracing World testers at Palomar. They said they put a showroom computer on their ZX10 and it had no effect on BHP. They got 162. The fuckwit actually told me he was convinced the bike wasn't a ringer because it made the same power with a showroom ecu. Try not to be influenced by magazine tests. They are conducted by imbeciles.

Thanks for the link. I'm still clueless though. mmmmmm, clueless as to how or what to do first?? BD Things like which spigot to cap and which to vent to the atmosphere would be nice. Obviously (I think) the carb spigots get capped. There are two tank spigots and what the fuck is that solenoid thing? Color me stupid.

Obviously (I think) the carb spigots get capped. There are two tank spigots and what the fuck is that solenoid thing? Color me stupid. You have a roll over valve, a overflow drain, and a vapor vent. You cannot cap the vapor vent as your tank will not equalize pressure. The trick is to get your hands on a 49 state gas cap (or aftermarket if you don't want to use the key) as they vent thru the cap and dont have the extra 'spigot' on the tank for venting like a CA bike. After you change it, then you can cap off the tank vent.
