I'm not sure if you guys are aware of its existences, a ZXR400 I always wanted one of those. I use to ride with a buddy who was from Japan and he turned us on to this Japanese book store that sold Motocycle mags. I use to drool over all the small displacement bikes they have over there.

Its a common sight to see CBR400, GSXR400 and ZXR400, its a shame that there isnt much FZR400.

Most of them ended up on the track all pieced together with different parts from different bikes. I would still love to get one if I could find a nice stock one.

That last one wasnt just the regular Ninja 250 with a better paint job? The 400 would have been a great starter sportbike!

In the SS400 class the RS250 and ZXR400 used to race each other. Both are very nice bikes. But both have remained unchanged for years. The RS is now dropped from the Aprilia line up (exhaust emmision regs). The ZXR400 is a nice bike but it has never changed (apart from the paint work) since they started making them.....Nice but bit outdated now

When I lived in Japan my friend had a CBR250rr that redlined at 19.5k RPM. It was a dog compared to my Gixxer 750 but still a cool bike.

I don't think it's an issue of emissions for the 400cc inline 4, but more an issue of supply and demand. I don't think the market demand for the 400 is large enough in the US. It would be cool as hell though.

It would be cool as hell though.I agree. The US market follows the old saying "No replacement for displacement". Therefore the manufacturers don't import the smaller CC sportbikes. To bad for us, as I would love to have got a ZXR400 for track duty.

There's the rumor of Aprilia putting their 450cc twin in a superbike frame the R450V. that would be a sweet track bike. If they put in the motard.. I can only dream..

They need to update the 500 ninja. A ZX5r or ZX4r would be ideal.

They have those in England. I was going to get one for a second "fun" trackbike, but they were like 1500 Euros, which is cool, but that is 3000 usd, so there was no freaking way I was going to get that. Since I got my 04 6r track bike for 2500, and only had to put 1k into it for a perfect bike.

you got your 6r for 5k usd or 2500usd? are you living in america or overseas?

There were loads of trick 400cc supersports bike made for the Japanese market from 89-98ish due to it being so much easier to get a license to ride a smaller bike over there. In Japan once their vehicles are a couple of years old they have to take a very expensive test to remain on the roads, so most owners chop them in for a new bike. Most of these bikes were bought up by British importers got stuffed into shipping containers and found their way to the UK. Here in the UK we were lucky enough to enjoy the NC30 (Baby RC30) RVF400 (Baby RC45) CBR400RR (BabyBlade) FZR400, ZXR400 and GSXR400. I had an NC30 V4 400 and it was an awesome bike. These bikes had high quality suspension and on sticky tyres, even being a ten year + old design can easily outperform any litre bike on a tight track or on a twisty British backroads. You can carry loads of corner speed with confidence and have loads of fun dusting big bikes on trackdays. The NC30 and FZR400 were available from UK dealers for a brief period but cost much more than one shipped in from Japan and also far more than a sports 600. Only Kawasaki continued to offer a sports 400 for the UK market and dropped the price of the ZXR400 to a sensible level and only discontinued it this year. It remained unchanged in its L model form since 1991!! We also had the Kawasaki KR1 and KR1S two stroke twin 250's which were fragile banzai things. Suzuki offered the RGV250 in direct competition. Aprilia produced the RS250 using the Suzuki's RGV250 engine, this was discontinued in the UK last year due to it being unable to meet the latest emmissions restrictions. The Japanese market changed in the late 90's so mini versions of the next generation of bikes were never produced. Shame really as a mini 10R or a mini R1 would make wicked track bikes.
