Hey everyone, looks like this could turn out to be a great site.
Let me introduce myself please. 45, male. 25 years riding, 5 years racing on and off with WSMC and AFM. Have been riding/racing a 99 R6 and just picked up a black ZX-10R two weeks ago. I'm actually trying to quit racing (I've tried 3 other times :? ) and thought that treating myself to a new bike for the street would take my mind off of racing. I'm located in Fresno CA.
530 miles on the ZX-10 so far, and I love it. Not as manic and sharp handling as my R6, but that bike has $4k in suspension and wheels. The 10's chassis seems a little more like the Duc 916 I had at one time; requires a little more input than the R6 but rewards with great stability. Just two things I've found that are a little bothersome: the off-on throttle response is a bit abrupt (compared to a friends 04 R1), and I don't like the feel of the shift lever. I've reversed the shifting, which improved the feel somewhat, but I think a good set of rearsets will be coming soon.
Anyone else agree or disagree on these two items?

welcome the site mate :)
i've only done 800 miles on my 10r to date, but I think the fuelling is perfect and the throttle response is almost carb-like in its delivery….far better than the gixer thou or 12r :?
as for the gear box…mine feels real slick so far. :?

Nice to have ya and thanks for the ride impressions so far. I can't comment as mine hasn't arrived yet.. :(

Adjust the throttle cable (below the silver Kawi badge on front lright of frame) - I found my bike came with alotta play in the cable.
Since I've got rid of the 12 for this, I like a tight throttle now.

Yes, Mine did have excessive throttle play. I adjusted to eliminate it, but still the throttle response seems abrupt. I had a chance to ride a new 04 R1 on Saturday (and a 98 R1) and they both had VERY smooth off-on response (but the bikes felt much bigger and heavier). Much smoother than even my R6.
Perhaps it is just something I have to get used to, or maybe it will be less noticeable at higher rpm. I'm accustomed to just SPANKING my R6 to get the power out of it, so the 10 is a very different ride for me.
By the way, I got out a tape measure and the dimensions and riding position of the 10 are nearly identical to that of my R6. Amazing.
Me thinks we are all in for some very good times on these bikes!

Haven't really found the throttle response to be too bad, but then I'm comparing it to my 954, which had very abrupt throttle transitions. I expect that a PCIII will take care of what you're feeling just by fattening up the fuel ratio down low.
I reversed the shifting as soon as I got the bike home (had to hit the back corner of the fairing with the die-grinder a bit to clearance for the shift arm) but I've found the trans to be so smooth shifting that I'm not even sure that I've shifted, at times. What I'm not fond of is the footpegs. They just feel small and thin under my boots. And they want to fold up on me when moving my feet around to shift. Definitely impatiently waiting for my Sato rearsets.
