: Recent horse power dyno
PavementSlider 02-20-2004, 09:01 PM Read it for yourself. Go to sportrider.com where it says they tested the zx10r at 161.8hp :D and 80ft lbs of torque. They also state the 2003 GSXR1000 was at 152.1 and 78. :P On the other front a local engine builder in town for the racing crowd just broke in his 2004 R1 and dynoed it. 156.8 hp. Kevin
kawiman88 02-21-2004, 02:37 PM just read a post on another board......
that a 10 was dynoed, at 162 RWHP yesterday,,, in california.

Z...Do you mind predicting the future some more... :D :D
burgerkin 02-21-2004, 04:04 PM the future:
in five years we'll all be riding electric environmentally save scooters, so if you have a ZX10R hold on to it
zeta xray 02-21-2004, 11:35 PM Those hp numbers are cool but Sport Riders dyno is HIGH. They always have the biggest numbers. I think they know it by now. An article in their latest issue says that they think their dyno is optimistic.
Ninja 02-22-2004, 12:00 AM If their dyno is high, it should no matter as long as you compare the results from the same dyno.
A ZX10R with over 160hp with a stock exhaust!
We have seen 149 in the UK to over 165 in Germany
I would like to see that ZX10R on a the 150 Dynojet at my dealer. I believe 153 to 155 will be a more realiable figure.

I totally agree with that. Its still up almost 10 horses on the G1k.
Nullzero 02-22-2004, 12:09 PM The redline on the G1k is also not quite as high as the 10r, I was reading the lastest issue of Sport Rider with the CBR1000 and ZX10r first rides and the article stated that the midrange didn't feel as strong as teh G1k but that top end pull was at least as strong or stronger. I ride mostly on the street so midrange is more important to me than full top end Ompf (but Ompf is still nice)
Besides the local Kawa dealer wants $11,100 dollars for a new 10r and the G1k is only $10,400 and they might even have a '03 or two sitting around for less. I love the looks and the technology of the 10r but I'm confident I would be just as happy paying $700 dollars less (at least) and going with the G1k. Besides $700 can buy at least 10hp in aftermarket parts.
Who among us can really use 140hp on the track? ( The 01 G1k made more than enough power, and on the track always felt as if it had some in reserve) I'm not even going to ask that question about riding on the street. I think we will all be surprised just how close these bikes are going to be in regards to HP, with the exception of the Honda which I think will be picking up the end of the pack. So pick a bike for reasons other than max hp, use looks, quality, price, whatever.

Big Daddy 02-22-2004, 01:19 PM I like that i'm paying 11,1k OTD for my 10r and will add the $700+ for even more giddy-up and yes i can use all the Hp its got.. 8)

Well I guess we've finally got someone on this board that isn't totally ga-ga over the ZX-10. Looks like this site is starting to take off. :)
Welcome aboard.
kwakman 02-22-2004, 03:48 PM The only thing that it doesn't say about that dyno test is that they were using race gas. I am sure that it adds a few more ponies, but, still isn't changing my decision, I've got the first black one I can get my hands on.
I normally mix my gas 50 / 50 race / 93 octane and go to a slightly hotter plug.
Not to mention are the numbers corrected to altitude / temp / humidity??
Those are all variables that when you go and get yours dynoed and say what the heck??
Now you know why, but, all the bikes are or should all be done the same.
Nullzero 02-22-2004, 05:35 PM I registered here in Sep of '03 been aboard for a while, just not so gaga over the 10r anymore. Its a awesome sight but Im going to reserve final judgement until the sportrider comparo. Don't get me wrong i've been a big fan of the 10r since I first saw pictures of it last summer, but Im looking forward to see how it stands up in terms of quality of construction and durability. The last thing I want is a bike that will be in the shop every two weeks and the G1k has already had a year for the kinks to be worked out. Still if I can get a good price I am willing to find out first hand. But I'm a poor college poor and am working and paying my own way thru school, so its important to me to get a good price as well as something I can enjoy. Besides ~10 hp won't make much of a difference and from looking at the dynos on the sportrider website, the G1k does have a 'slightly' (very slight) midrange advantage, while it is fairly obvious that the 10r stomps it on top.
I'm still in the 10r's corner but it won't take much to bring me over :P

I was planning on getting the G1k even after I saw the first pics of the ZX-10. Having never knowing anything about Kawasaki and the fact that 11 grand is alot of money to me too, I planned on playing it safe. But after spending so much time discussing the ZX-10 with these guys and others at different forums, absorbing all I could through various test and getting to sit on one at a show a few months back I'm pretty much hooked. :)

I was planning on getting the new 04 750, but I got caught up with the ninja hype too  . Now that I'm older I can manage a track bike and a street ride, so I'm really into the 10R as a street bike and probably throw her on the track a few times too. My old 00 750 will be converted to a full track bike in time... I'm waiting on a full write up on the 10R as well.
PavementSlider 02-23-2004, 09:34 AM :) For the deal on power, us mortals will never get to tap the bikes power. Not that it is a big deal but last year the quarter mile was my big get out time. At that track the more power = faster times. Even 10hp isn't too much but I also consider the zx10r's size to be why I would buy it. The possability of what the zx10r can do and will handle like is worth it in my book. This comes from a guy who had a deposit on an 04 R1 six days after its release online. Kevin

I'm of the belief that the power/hp/torque can be used on all the new bikes by many street riders let alone trackday riders/racers. People were saying this about the predecessors of the 04 bikes but people still managed it.
The question is 'how efficiently can it be used' and to what extent? Certainly it cannot be exploited to the max in all conditions but it can be to varying degrees. For example i know if i'm doing some roll-ons with a buddy from 60mph to whatever its gonna be WFO!! or if i'm doin a tk-dy the straights will be WFO, so it can be tapped as i say to varying degrees.
