as most know it will certainly need it with the very shortish wheelbase, steep R&T #'s, etc. Even if its a so,so quality unit its surely better than none at all. :? BD

CD, Perhaps it was misposted (dunno) but i did read the report of J Hayes winning @ WSR which is cool but no doubt Attack has them fitted with dampers. BD

it is a bit pennie pinching I think, but those dampers found on Jap bikes are usually crap so now you have to get a decent one  I know I will

I've read more than once that in stock form it is rock steady. However, slide the forks in the triple clamp and change to a different brand of tires, who knows. Anyway, if worrying about it is going to affect your riding, you may as well mount one. Just one less thing to sweat, IMO.

I don't suppose it was during a street ride/test where these remarks came from was it? I'm inclined to take into consideration the endless array of surfaces the general public encounters on a Sun ride and say the very first time someone gives it the gorilla nuts (full throttle) in 2nd or 3rd gear and hits a smallish ripple or bump in the road and it translates into a huge tankslapper/nutbuster that gets saved or not it gives a new meaning to the words 'steering damper'. Yes i know its not the complete answer to the entire aforementioned scenerio but it can reduce the likelyhood of a disaster. BD

I looked at several photos of Josh Hayes ZX10R @ Willow and I could not see a steering damper anywhere on the bike. It is possible that it could have been hidden low down in front of the forks, but I couldn't see one there either. :? There was definitely not anything on the side of the frame or top of the forks..... The bike seemed fairly stock (Arrow slip-on  , and some really beautiful rear-sets :D ).

Very interesting indeed! thats typically where they mount them. ( up front between the triples) perhaps not then. BD

CD, Perhaps it was misposted (dunno) but i did read the report of J Hayes winning @ WSR which is cool but no doubt Attack has them fitted with dampers. BD You are 100 percent correct. I was at willow on sunday when the race went on to watch my friend in the 125 class race. Hayes looked fooking awesome out there, and he was a nice guy when you went up and drooled over his race bike. There is a damper mounted on his bike, looks like it's probably olihns, but didn't have a name on it. Which is surprising to me since you know, it's advertisement? But Ya, I thought he was trying to say something like "Well the bike seems to do fine without it or something" but I was hoping he wasn't that stupid. :P Must be a mispost. In reply to Zeta, I got no way to prove it. Didn't take pictures, so it's just my word. But it looked like one to me, and it was frame mounted like the GSXR-1000 and the new 04 R1. Any bike, especally a superbike which is putting out almost 200 hp at the rear wheel needs a damper. Otherwise Hayes is going to have problems. That a side, I know the bike is a superbike and all and isn't what you will be buying from a dealer, but my stock in the 10R went up a shit load watching that race. I mean holy hell he ran three of em and fucking owned like a motha fucker. In the stoney race, that he lost to, if anyone doesn't think he lost that on purpose is on crack cayse the guy was beating the shit out of everyone. He started out last in the modified, and in turn one on the outside passed like 6 people. I never seen anything like it. I was cleaning the nut out of my pant's for the rest of the night. Sorry, got a little excited.

I saw a picture of the Attack team bikes, during the daytona tests, on www.2wf.com and it sure as hell had an Ohlins steeringdamper  Just above the lower triple clamps. I noticed they, as well as the Kawa USA bikes, are also using Ohlins rear shocks and the front internals also seem to be Ohlins. I will probably never need the steering damper but it is reassuring to know it is there. May be I mount it 916 style so everbody can see it, I mean why hide something so beautiful

The damper topic is one thats discussed over & over for the majority of sportbikes these days as the wheelbases get shorter, the bikes get lighter (except Hondas  ) hence they have a tendency to get nervous when ridden above 50% of the riders ability on occasion, so some will want it & some will have no need or desire. burgerkin don't hide it flaunt it.. :D BD

My 636 makes 50 percent less horsepower, but comming out of a turn at full throttle causes some head shake. First thing I did was put a damper on that sob to fix it. Was wirth the 400 bucks Scott's charged me, and it only made it better.

I agree with you CDC. I have a 636 as well, built with as much as you can do (or at least at the time) ( I am in the Navy deployed :( right now) I have a Ti moriwaki pipe, K&N air, Scotts damnpner, Scotts oil filter, Pm wheels (incidentally I took the ones off my zx7, had some parts machined and yeah baby it works!), pm full floating rotors. Power commander and 2 hours on the dyno getting it tweaked! Needless to say, I come out of the corners or an on ramp and whack it and holy shit, that 636 is baaad ass, but it does tend to have a tank slap ability before the dampner anyway! I have sold my bike to a guy here on the ship and when we were in port, called the bike shop from Dubai and told them to hold the black one!! I have cash! I would get the green, but that fag black fairing on the bottom is stopping me, I guess I could get it painted, but the black frame and all, not to mention, my wife has a black 636, now we can truly have the his and hers! Later bros! Let's keep this site going huh, screw all those zuk fans!

First thing I do no matter what liter bike i get, is add a damper though. If i get the R1, then off comes that stock pile of crap damper for a scotts or olhins, if I get the 10R I hope the make the center mount Scott's cause that damper really was the shitz. Either way I wont know until feburary which bike im getting for sure. Right now i got my deposit on an R1 cause of the price i was offered, however that could change if the 10R is rated best handling. Dont care which bike is fastest, I want the one that handles closest to a 600. We will see, can't wait.. 1 more month! WOOHOO!
