: stick on aux mirror queston
MikeP 06-20-2004, 09:20 PM I was slowing down on the highway today to allow a tow truck to turn off and I heard tires screetching behind me! I didn't even know there was a car behind me because I hadn't checked the mirrors in a few seconds :x .
I kind of froze up and concentrated on accelerating around the truck at the earliest possible time without eating the back or slamming into oncoming trafffic
I should have checked my mirrors as soon as I knew the truck was turning but he kind of turned at the last second. I wasn't tailgating either. These mirrors SUCK!!!!!! There is no reason our bikes should have left the factory this way! It is totally fuckin' dangerous!
Anyway, my bike and I are still here and now it's time to visit WM or Autozone.
To those who use them, what kind of stick on mirrors did you add to the stockers to make them usable? Round? rectangular?......

I bought a pair of 2" convex rounds and mounted/stuck them on the farthest outside lower corner.

mad kaw 06-21-2004, 12:09 AM I can't see (no pun intended) that helping. It would only distort the view of your shoulder. The only thing that is going to make a difference is moving the mirrors outboard a few inches. Too bad all the clever fucks in the bolt on biz are all tied up satisfying the poser squid's that spend $ on shit that looks ass and works worse than stock. I seen some shit on Ducs that looks like it might be functional. Spendy billet stuff. I'm looking into it.
Big Daddy 06-21-2004, 12:22 AM on the contray! it enables you to see in what would typically be a blind spot to either side, hence the reason for using them, hence the reason some cars have them as standard equip.

mad kaw 06-21-2004, 12:49 AM I want to see behind me. You want to trust some distorted POS glue on trinket for your blind spot, go for it. I'll turn my head (again, no pun intended:).
lucifer 06-21-2004, 01:34 AM Try them out first, if they don't work, throw 'em away. They're cheap.

Heck i'm with ya as i'd like to see directly behind me as well but that ain't happenin with the OEM mirrors, now perhaps a bar end type would fill the void but i don't care for them either so while the 2" convex stick-on POS (as you call it) certainly doesn't enable you to see directly behind you it does provide the rider with a view of their blind spot (fact) I will still glance to either side on occassion as i change lanes but only after checking my POS

MikeP 06-21-2004, 03:37 PM I checked some out a Auto Zone and they were total crap! It wasn't even a glass mirror, it was foil or something, with bubbles under it.
I don't have a problem turning my head when changing lanes either, but it would be nice to just tuck my elbows in a bit to get a peek if someones behind me.

You checked out Auto Zone? I think better ones come out of Cracker Jack boxes. Might wanna look there just in case or a happy meal.
Super Size me!
Why don't you check out a internet search for some quality glass ones??

LOL

I also checked a speed shop-different brand but still a POS.
Maybe I'll try the local Kawi dealer or Dennis Jerk.
You wouldn't want to make a mirror out of GLASS or anything! :x
Older Guy 06-24-2004, 12:32 AM Pep Boys has 'em...I put them on my current bike...only a couple of bucks.,,
MikeP 07-03-2004, 01:28 PM wal-mart.....Hot Spots 2" round $.99 each. They work decent and don't look too gay.
mad kaw 07-03-2004, 10:17 PM I seen some rectangular stick-on ones I might try. I can't imagine it making things any worse. Fuck you Kawasaki. You bastards need to get over Hiroshima already and quit dicking with us. Uh, did I mention the mirrors are somewhat annoying?
Big Daddy 07-04-2004, 04:53 AM Not from where i'm standing you haven't. :D

Louks03 07-04-2004, 06:22 AM I'm wondering why they put these mirrors on our bikes. Did they know they were useless or do Japanese guys just have really narrow bodies. I can't imagine a company as big as Kawasaki letting these things out the door as crappy as they are..... Maybe I place too much confidence in them. I wonder what other rhings were overlooked or let slide when I'm rocketing down HWY 62 at 185MPH. /wink
Actually mechanically I'm very confident in my ZX10R. Functional mirrors are a priveledge not a right. :protest:
Big Daddy 07-04-2004, 10:05 AM Louks03
You have my sentiments but frankly the large % of sportbike mirrors are useless and are a cosmetic DOT necessity first and a functional (or not) aid to its rider second. :(

Frankyoz 07-04-2004, 03:14 PM I agree all mirrors suck butt!! I am forever trying to find a happy medium with the damn things, I have been thinking over the convex mirror thing also but as it was said before how does it help, but see more to the side of you? I want to see behind me so those pesky coppers cant sneak up on me, if they can keep up that is.
kwakman 07-04-2004, 03:26 PM Well, I am currently over in the UK and I have been looking for exactly the things we are talking about. I stopped by Trevor Pope cycles in Gosport and they had them, trouble is, you have to remove your bar ends and put in some other ones, which aren't nearly as heavy, which translates into vibration. Soooooooooo I didn't get them, but I am looking for something to replace those crappy mirrors.
Still looking at other bikes mirrors that might fit the Zed, but can't do any checking out at sea, so, in a couple weeks can start to find something. Will keep you posted.
 They're not all that bad.
Big Daddy 07-04-2004, 05:41 PM PW :tongue10:
