Apparently the first R1 with Ram Air! Wonder if the ZX10r will hit 180bhp????

i dont know. i thought kawa posts its hp figures without ram air. so i think both bikes might be neck to neck. all it will boil down to is which has more horsepower, more torque, better handling and looks. those will be my ultimate deciding factors. but i am leaning with the kawa for now :D

The 180 figure is mostly bs in my opinion. With ram air you can really quote whatever you want. I can almost promise that a dyno run with that engine will produce no where near that number. Maybe at 150mph the engine will be pushing that much power. But kawa has a much better ram air system. IMO the 04 r1 has a few minor improvements (mainly to the frame and swingarm, that tilted engine is interesting also) and alot of eye candy. That pretty much keeps with what yamaha has been doing since 98, killer looks and good performance but still lacking when compared to other bikes (like the gixxer). The fact is, it seems many people will buy a bike on looks rather than performance (is this because they know they can't use all it has anyway or some other reason?) and yamaha has done a good job tapping into this. 180hp I think not -akEric P.S. the front end on that r1 is ugly , the best thing it has going is the tail section, that underseat exhaust is trick, but once again its not there for performance its there for looks, and will be much more expensive to replace with a aftermarket pipe. My nod goes to the kawa. -E

Oh boy. There's the new Fireblade to think about too! Seems they've taken a different approach to the rest and gone for MotoGP technology over outright BHP. It's gonna get real interesting next year.

The R1 data states at the crank with ram air!! What they don't state is in 6th gear at red line utilizing a big huge fan!! for the ram air!!

What counts is how much hp is delivered to the rear wheel...I'm sure there will be many shootouts and dyno tests over the next year. Competition at it's best.

What counts for me is how solid is the handling . . . I'm sure there will be gobs more power than what I can safely handle . . . I just don't want the power to kill me. ha ha (with an unconscious flick of the wrist).
